Morten Vatn has come to us from Oslo, Norway, through the American Field Service. The Key Club sponsored Morten, who has become a worthy member of Raton Rouge High, participating in many of the club activities of the school. This year he has been an active member of the Beta Club, Student Council, and the Key Club. We have exchanged ideas and customs, each of us learning and prospering by this exchange. Morten will be missed and remembered by all of us when he returns to Norway to complete his high school education. As a special tribute to our foreign exchange student, Morten Vatn, The Fricassee Staff dedicates this page to him. 46 Morten before his speech. Morten Vatn MRS. AUDIF. MOFFETT “All arc architects of Fate Working in these walls of Time; Some with massive deeds and great Some with ornaments of rhyme.” Henry Wadsworth 1-ongfcllow For many years the Choruses of BRHS have entertained for many clubs and groups in town and have gained a very worthy reputation. The person responsible for all these programs is Mrs. Audie Moffett, who is retiring this year. We regret very much that she is leaving us for we will miss all the wonderful musical programs, all the singing in the halls, and above all we will miss her. Many of her voice pupils have reached great heights in the musical world. Mrs. Moffett has done a fine job here and to her we say, THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS. May she always keep a place in her heart for us as we will for her. May her retirement be a happy one, and may God Bless her. Who's Who It is with pleasure and pride that we present to you the following Seniors who were voted hy their teachers for WHO’S WHO at Baton Rouge High School, on the basis of scholastic achievement, leadership, service, honesty, loyalty, and courtesy. All of them were very active in club work; besides that, they kept up their grades and exhibited qualities of loyalty, honesty, and courtesy. It is students like these who make of BRHS one of the best schools in the country and who dispel all adverse criticisms of modern teen-agers. To these students we say congratulations and Godspeed in the future. May you continue to follow in the path of righteousness and become good, useful citizens in this wonderful country of ours. Good luck and God bless you. The activities of the First Term of the Student Council were severely hampered by the renovation problem. However, because of its fine leadership, it was able to accomplish much despite its handicap. It found time to sponsor two dances, Christmas and Homecoming. Both were successful from every standpoint but finance. The council, under the direction of the hard-working Executive Board, opened the student store for business, carried on a pep campaign, and endeavored to put on a powder puff football game between junior and senior girls , which was postponed three times due to the weather. The organization sponsored student busses to the out-of-town football games, handed out to the student body a welcomed Code of Ethics, sold the Buzzer and the Fricassee, and made pep meetings available. Second Term The Second Term began very auspiciously, with many elections being conducted by the council. A public telephone booth was placed by the auditorium for the use of the students. Ihe long-awaited traffic stickers finally arrived and were put on students' cars for identification. A Valentine Dance was held, and the council helped promote Twirp Week, the Junior-Senior Prom and Senior Prom. The Representatives also collected for many worthy causes, among them the March of Dimes and the Red Cross. Perhaps its foremost and most successful project, though, was the student-teacher basketball pame. which provided many enjoy-ble moments for the students. Istrouma used a punt return for a 7-0 lead at the half, and then an aerial in the third period for another score. Three plays later the Bulldogs countered with a 48 yard touchdown pass from Cotton to Beck, and Richard’s conversion made it, 14-7, late in the third quarter. They have scored 2,418 points to the opponent’s 1,071. In the district race, the Bulldogs have lost only one game, to the Istrouma Indians. They had beaten the Skins three days before, 51-42, in the Wedge Kyes Tournament, but then lost to them, 49-48, in one of the most exciting games ever played in local prep basketball. Going into the fourth quarter, the Dogs had a commanding lead but the Indians came, back to tie the game in the last two seconds on a 10-ft. set shot by one of their guards. The buzzer ending the game sounded as the ball swished the net. In the overtime period Baton Rouge High again led with six seconds left to play when Istrouma scored a goal to pull into a one point lead. The Bulldogs called time with five seconds left. A desperation long pass and shot failed and the vital district game was over. However, the Bulldogs got revenge two weeks later at Istrouma before a capacity crowd of around 2,000. The Canines led all the way after grabbing a 3-0 lead at the game’s outset. Early in the third quarter the margin was widened to 10 points and the Bulldogs kept this lead the rest of the game to win 49-39. A play-off game was scheduled within two weeks to decide the District 3-AAA champ. One of BRHS’s greatest achievements this year was winning the Wedge Kyes Championship. After the team trophy was presented, Bob Cotton and Brady Beck received awards for being chosen to the Wedge Kyes All-Tournament team.
