MUSKQ l Music in the first four grades includes ear training, vocal ex- ercises, note reading, and rhythm exercises and songs. Upper grade music has included Music Appreciation this year. The text- book used was UPreludeU from the series Hhaking Friends With Iusicn. Some of the records listed in the textbook were studied very thoroughly. Vocal exercises, ear training, rhythm, note reading and solo and group singing were part of the course. More than fifty percent of all grsde school pupils studied music on some instrument in l9AO-Ll. Violin, cello, cornet, and clarinet classes were organized. Each pupil paid a small rentalpywh ' fee for the l 5355 ' X IN. A instruments. Members of these classes played solos at 5 monthly pro- ? grams, a n d l small groups played ensemble numbers. 50
