go j but your class has done the most est and been the bestest Why I remember the Key Club Assembly the first t1me the boys had an as sembly of thelr own well I guess It was about time the boys had equal rlghts to show their stuff And d1d they ever ' The Key Club fashlon show w1ll go down ln history fand personally I think they re gomg to keep lt burxed down therej along with RlCh16 Schupbachs famous speech about the BF Hop and the Jumor Class Trrp whlch was fantabu lous as well as wet And speak1ng of burymg thmgs what about the old Splflt you burled 1n S69 The funeral really paid off and the Llons came roarmg back to vxctory for the first tlme 1n five years you won the annual Bass1ck Ludlowe Football Game 26 25 And Ill never forget the day the basketball team compnsed of its co captams Lenny Klelnman and Archle Helms Paul Borgman Sonny Romanczk and Danny Morello clmched a berth m the Class A State Basketball Tournament Fmals That was also the day that Danny broke the Greater Brldge port D1str1ct scholastlc scormg record by netting lifty five points It seems that ever slnce you 58 ers hit the school you ve been a sports mmded bunch Fxrst you organ ized the track team Wonder lf xt was to keep the guys fit for pursumg the g1rls99 Then came the golf and swlmmlng teams some more firsts for the Class of 58 Whoops almost forgot to mentlon the krds on the tenms team they fimshed thlrd m the state tennxs tournament So you boys made a blg splash ln the world of sports at BaSSlCk but the gxrls werent far behind For the past few years your class has walked off wlth top honors at All Glrls Day Mass evacuatlon resldents of the basement homerooms move out as honored guests Frank and Helen Termxte move ln I remember that only too we Belongmg to You that was the theme of your class m 1957 when you at last recelved your class r1ngs As you rushed from class to class that day the l1ghts above JUST happened to catch the shlne of those gllttermg r1ngs I can remember you as shy lxttle sophomores look mg for the elevators Thmgs have changed slnce then nowadays they re lookmg for the escalatorsl' And lt was at the Sophomore Party you dlscovered that you had more than just people ln your class you had talent And what about the day another batch of hot The L1on s Den Bass1ck H1gh School June 5 1958 rodders was turned out by Bass1ck High Your senior class was one of the first to take advantage of the new Drlver Education Program Ray Anthonys band best prepare for some stiff competxtxon ln the form of the Bass1ck Dance Band Under the d1rect1on of Mr Stephen Gasper those klds really blew up a storm especlally at the Semor Play I guess the klds had a ball puttmg that on The Make up Squad really outdld themselves that mght Poor Lank never found out t1ll the bitter end that the mysterlous woman he was trymg to make out wlth was LOUIS the cab dr1ver ' Even though I wasnt an officlal member of your class I had a ball at your Semor Prom You were all on Cloud 7 so I guess you dldnt notlce me keepmg tabs on the gomgs on To top off a perfect evemng you retreated to varlous mght spots I heard someone mentlon that there was a crowd gomg to Longshore Country Club so I declded to Journey out and have a look see The party was st1ll gomg strong even after hours of dancmg Along about 3 00 am I realxzed that I had had enough of the prom fest1v1t1es and decxded to h1t the road Although I ve been domg a lot of talklng about the kxds 1n your great class the faculty deserves some credlt for puttmg up wxth you especlally Mr Frledrlch Roth prmclpal of Bassxck H1gh for the Semor Prom or graduatlon came truell Fmally the b1g day arrxved I never thought I d see the day when so many kids would cry at leavmg school but boy d1d the tears flow that mght Its a good thmg I was stocked with extra tlssues because IH all the excxtement of graduatmg you never thought of brmgmg them Thls was the cllmax to four years of hard work worry1ng about the homework you dxdnt do the SENIOR DELEGATES During the year, the Senior Delegates trans- acted all the business of the Class of 1958. These delegates, consisting of a representative from each senior homeroom, attended regularly sched- uled meetings together with the class officers and Mrs. Virginia Loch, the class advisor. At these meetings they voiced ideas and sugges- tions of the students whose homerooms they represented. It was the responsibility of the Senior Dele- gates to collect class dues, plan class trips, and count votes during the class elections. We owe our sincere thanks to the Senior Delegates and Mrs. Loch for making our last year at Bassick such a tremendous success. kwin wi 4. JUNIOR MOTHERS' TEA Wednesday, October 16, was the day set aside for the junior Mothers' Tea. This gay social event was under the direction of Mrs. Helen McHugh, junior class advisor, and Martha Saur, co-director of social activities. The mothers en- joyed the refreshments which included coffee and tea and a fine array of pastries, cakes, and cookies. The girls also did a wonderful job in providing entertainment for the tea. A pleasant atmosphere was created by the background mu- sic played on the piano by Jaylene Summers and Susan Chopsky. Maureen McQueeney also played a selection. Kathi Steene sang Scarlet Ribbons and accompanied herself on a guitar. The juniors certainly worked hard to make their mothers' tea a great success. JUNIOR CLASS OFFICERS First row, 1.-r. Earl Brown Although most students at Bassick recognize the fact that school is a place for study and work Cwe occassionally have this concept of education brought home to us quite forcefullyj, the many extra-curricular activities available for our participation display the wider range of educational opportunity present in our school. Pupils at Bassick may join musical groups, hobby clubs, honor societies, foreign language study groups, and serv- ice organizations. The Student Council is an organization in which student opinion concerning school matters is expressed. The Student Council is composed of the homeroom presidents, who meet once a month under the guidance of Mr. Earl Brown. Those juniors and seniors who have been elected by their classmates to receive scholarship-leadership pins must have high scholastic standings and prove to be worthy student leaders. At an awards assembly in January Miss Mary J. Gallahue pre- sented silver pins to five per cent of the junior class and gold pins to five per cent of the senior class. These pins may be worn by the recipients for only one year. At the end of that time the pins must be returned. On graduation night outstanding seniors receive gold pins which they may keep permanently. 79 First row, I.-r. DANCE BAND Bassick High School offers its students the opportunity to belong to several musical organizations. The Band, under the direction of Mr. Stephen Gasper, plays at the school football games and at the assemblies. Some of the outstanding instrumentalists are chosen to participate in a concert in April. Many of the musicians go on to the Inter-High School Band and the All-State Band. The most experienced members of this group are chosen for the Dance Band which plays at the Senior Play, the Spring Play, All Boys' Day, the B.F. Hop, and other school functions. Albert DelMonte, the student leader, takes over the direction of the Dance Band when Mr. Gasper is absent. 84 CHORUS Many students who enjoy singing belong to the chorus. Each year the members of the chorus have an opportunity to go to the New York Metropolitan Opera House. The opera seen this year was Carmen. The chorus, together with the A Cappella Choir, participates in the Christmas Assembly and the Spring Concert. After being in chorus for one year, those students who have exceptionally good singing voices are chosen by Mrs. Lilyan Zigun for the A Cappella Choir. The choir not only performs at school functions but also represents Bassick at the Choir Festival in Stamford and the Inter-High School Concert at the Klein Memorial Auditorium. S u zanne Eike Advisor ., Miss Evelyn Felton If PEP CLUB gained no wins in the seven meets in which they competed in 1957, the vital organizational phase of its existence has been completed and the team is pointing toward a very successful 1958' season. Much valuable experience was afforded by our participation in dual meets and the warning has been posted to rival schools, '4Watch out for the Green and White Harriers! The foundation of our school spirit can be found in the Pep Club, one of Bassick's leading organizations. Under the direction of Miss Evelyn Felton and president Rose Kanca, it is the responsibility of this club to boost school spirit by encour- aging our student body to attend Bassick's athletic events and cheer our teams to victory. The Pep Club forms the nucleus for the Bassick cheering section at all games. Their influence certainly has been felt by all who participate in sports.
