SENIOR PLAY Furl Rau Donald Dempsey Mary Lou Keegan Gloria Osso Patricia Fox William Venman Elsie Cocco Second Rou Robert Benedict Anne Wiseman Albert Kleban Fred Dori june Roos Sarah Cun nmgham Arthur Sherwood John Pardy Hazel Stenquist William Weaver Betty Sager Carolyn McLaughlin .,sm!'ELi 'ff' 4319 -e 'sh 'i fr nervf' GULUSSAL' STUPENDUIJS The greatest performance ever given at Bassick was the unanimous verdict of the audiences who were lucky enough to attend the Senior Play The talented cast trained to perfection by Miss Mae McNulty held everyone spellbound through all the crises of a not so uzet Summer Some of the high spots of the play which the audience will long remember were the efforts of Hazel Stenquist and Arthur Sherwood fwith saxophoneh to enliven a dignified political campaign Donald Dempsey's portrayal of their harassed uncle, Albert Kleban's hilarious performance as an arrogant, blustering politician, and Mary Lou Keegan's partial but painful sunburn. J' 'l ' Credit should also be given to the members of the Stage Crew the Scenic Artists and the Make up Squad whose work behind the scenes played a large part in the tremendous success of the production 3 24

Urcgyu 45559 Q GUMING EVENTS Who Us CForrner Bassrckrtes of the Class of l949D Where At the Broman and Balogh Crrcus at the Brrdgeport Crrcus Grounds When June 9 1959 Why For the fun of rt Step rrght up step rrght up folks' See the brggest show on earth' Ladres and gents you are about to see the greatest the most magnrlicent the most stupendous show rn the country The Broman and Balogh Crrcus' Thrs was the famrlrar cry of the barker that we heard as we were pushed through the mrllrng crowds Makrng our way to the marn tent we accrdentally pushed a lrttle red harred grrl rnto the cotton candy stand We turned to apologrze and whom should we see but the chrlds parents Mr and Mrs Robert Samuelson nee Natalre Wunsch To our delrght we found that thrs trny creature was the youngest of therr four chrldren We talked for a whrle about the old days at Bassrck and whrle srpprng hrs soda Bob told us that a former classmate of ours Arnold Bar was working on hrs latest experrment a method by whrch one could remove the fizz from Pepsr Cola We had not moved much farther when we saw an autograph hungry crowd surroundrng a tall cowboy wearrng a ten gallon hat He was none other than that Wfestern star Klrppety Klop Kleban We were swept by the crowd rnto the brg tent and found seats next to Marcra Blank senror partner of the law firm Blank Dash and Space Marcra rn qurred about Arnold Schwartz who had recently gone rnto partnershrp wrth Noel Grnzberg to manu facturc that new type Stecksonrum pocketbook made from the new element of the same name found by Susan Steck We drdnt have long to chat before the show began wrth Anne Wrseman and Eevlyrr Stearns swrngrng on therr magrc trapezes and Sally Cunnrng ham rrdrng bareback rn the mrddle rrng On a nearby bleacher we saw a young couple Glorra Osso and her husband who are runnrng a combrnatron musrc studro and boxrng salon rn Long Hrll Behrnd Glorra sat Harrret Lerpner who had recently donated her servrces for a mrlk benefit whrch had been sponsored by jrm Cashavelly and Rrchard Callahan drrectors of the Delrnquent Advrsory Center Suddenly someone fell rt was Drane Smrth who had just farnted Alvrn Herskovrtz the yukapuk man of the day now berng featured wrth hrs clarrnet at Bob Wollerts nrghtclub rushed to her rescue wrth some of Drane s own farntrng prlls Dolores Crouthers regrstered nurse also lent a helprng hand After thrs excrtement had subsrded we turned to our program to see what was next rn the show As we glanced through the pages we saw the famous Tonr ad Whrch twrn had the Tonr Hazel or Clarre9 On the opposrte page we saw john Beyek prctured rn an Arrow shrrt ad jrm Matyas was also featured as a Man of Drstrnctron The brggest ad however was that of the People s Hardware Store now operated by Arnold Epstern and Brothers Next on the pro gram came the parade of the anrmals led by Marron Onady and followed by the crrcus band led by Elsre Cocco rn whrch Grlbert Lrndberg was head trombonrst We decrded that we wanted some popcorn and so between acts we went out to get rt By the stands we met joan O Day and her red harred husband joan told us that Joyce Stanley had been re elected to Congress on the Brrdge Party trcket and that Dan Olah presrdent of our graduatrng class rs now presr dent of the Olah Pastor and Rrley Rarlroad Co an express from Brack Rock to Trumbull Therr chref patrons of course are the Bassrck boys from the 49th state who are currently couttrng grrls rn Trumbull When the lrghts went up durrng rntermrssron we saw rn the sectron reserved for the hrgh school students a group of teen agers ushered to the crrcus by Rrchard Lrndsay Englrsh teacher and Nancy Watson and Grnny Abrtz French teachers We got up to stretch our legs and whom should we see but Bob Keller headrng toward the tent where hrs lron cubs were on exhrbrt After we had almost bumped C VJ! 4 ...4 c rn..
