PITG MEN just as circus goers hear the cries of the pitchmen urging them to buy peanuts, popcorn, and balloons, so Bassick students listen to the Senior Delegates, persuading them to spend their nickels and dimes for activities sponsored by the Senior Class. These enthusiastic promoters of senior activities have as their wares events like the class trip to West Point, the Senior Play, and the all-important Prom. W'orking with the class officers and Miss Kresge, senior class adviser, they make it their business to sell to the home rooms the idea of attending the splendid func- tions that they plan. The delegates are rewarded for their efforts only by the disheartening question, Are you collecting money again? and by the hne attendance at the ac- tivities on which they have so diligently worked. Pitchmen do their utmost to make sure that people leave a circus with filled hands and empty pockets: and the Senior Delegates. also famous as money collectors, arrange matters so that the seniors leave their alma mater with flattened purses and minds stored with happy memories. The pins are donated annually by the United Civic Clubs of Bridgeport to those juniors and seniors who have achieved scholastic distinc- tion and who have in the judgment of their classmates done most for the school and given greatest evidence of leadership. ARIALISTS They Hy through their ariar with the greatest of ease. But their smooth performance is the result of hard work. Hours of practice-much anxiety-before Miss Laing's combined chorus is prepared to meet its public. Four girls' choruses and one boys' chorus present their delightful music at the assemblies and at the Fanny Crosby Home at Christmas time. By popular demand the singers come back for a return engagement for the annual Spring Concert, at which they again display their melodious voices. However, it is not all work and no play for these choristers because they really enjoy singing various folk songs, love songs, and lullabies. BALLYH00 VOICE BUSINESS STAFF Fifi! Coached by Mr. Harry Lyon, Director of Athletics, they played hard and well. But they ran into more than their share of bad luck, losing several games by only one or two points. Starting with an early-season slump, the boys managed to pull themselves out of the cellar: but running up against some better-than-ordinary opponents. they were unable to turn in their usual brilliant record. Sparked by Bob Wollert, Phil Lil Abner Ness, johnny Bjorklund, and Don Borgman, Bassick was rated a hard opponent by rival teams. They played flashy ball and fought gamely throughout the season. 105 W, warn Mmres voummxvw CAN PLAY BASKET BML? I 1 3 --q. I 'illll -- 16- st in an W N Fur! Every time they pound the bases, they roll up more points. Last season they rolled up 50 in the thirteen games played. The team beat out a rhythmic victory four times, when they out-hit Harding, Central, Fairfield, and Harding again. In spite of a few set-backs the boys, under the able coaching of Mr. Harrington, played a fine game and brought great credit to Bassick, NET MEN All season Bassick's net men caught them as they fell-Greenwich, Harding, Hill- house, Stratford, Weaver, Staples, Fairfield. Seven teams in a row went down as Bassick played its rnost successful year. Not only did the tennis team come through its regular schedule undefeated, but it also won the County Tournament in Stamford on May 2. At Wesleyan however Weaver nosed out Mr Carr's rac uet wielders for the State a 7 ' q ' Championship, when Bassick made the only slip-up in its otherwise perfect performance. 2 f E A ' 1 4 ,t la 992 'A s - I ' I O er'-'Q 'W .,-3, .,...,, 5,443 .::.'5f::x,:,. 1 Arnold Bai.
