Secretary Cathy Armijo saw the ASB promoting spirit at pep rallies and getting clubs working together. Cabinet member Chrisann Tamori agreed that ASB worked to get people involved and that successful student government was basic to school unity. Chief Justice David Ortega said that ASB had worked hard and that the highest point, for him, was giving the coming class a challenge to keep the ASB going on with the same energy as 1979. Mrs. Melanie Byers serves as faculty advisor for the group, leading with a sure hand. Mr. Barry Tambara as director of activities provides conscientious leadership, helping with problems, attaining goals. Congratulations to a fine group! Bottom Row: K. Kamidoi, C. Tanori. A. Feria. M. en pq PQ on PQ en Before President Adam Ortega could lower the gavel on the first Associated Student Body (ASB) meeting, the prevailing theme that consumed most of the waking moments of the officers, the committees, and the spon- sors hit the group straight on with growing intensity. There was no money in the bank. Someone absconded with ASB funds. Rotten Luck! Now how can we run without money? NO WAY! This question surfaced time and again and the ASB went to work with fervor to correct the situation. President Ortega recalled that the students came in September with high hopes for the year and the finan- cial trouble knocked them off balance. The priority that emerged was to keep sports alive. For Ortega it was a trying year, but a meaningful, learning experience. He stated he had become more aware and his role as president had taught him self-discipline and given him pride in the fact the ASB was get- ting on its feet again. Albert Feria spent his third year in ASB and looks forward to working in 1980, his senior year. A self-motivated man, Feria said that working with student government helped him care for the school and in turn show others how to care. He felt reward in getting things done. Vice President Feria served as the student member of the school board, a responsible position pro- viding the ASB with communication with district administration! Commissioner of Activities Memo Galvan spent his first year as an officer of ASB. According to Memo it was a challenge for him personally. He saw that it was hard for the ASB to get the attention of students and teachers and at times the group felt all alone. Others didn ' t seem to know how much work and responsibility it took to put on dances, running the snack bar at games, and sometimes feeling disappointed because students let their school down with apathy or negative behavior. Memo found that involvement with ASB can be fun, that persons can have a good time while getting jobs done and generally keeping things going, that the work can give one pride in their school.
