Till ' one value 1 would like to convey lo you is lo enjoy, prize, foster, and protect distinctntiss in man. In a school such as ours, where so many of you. the students, come from different cultures, communicate in different languages, and ha ' e teachers who come from different backgrounds, it is important to understand one ' s uniqueness. Il is easier to work with blinders than to have open xision. One can choose to ignore individual and cultural differences in the hope they will disappear or one can acknowledge their presence and do everything possible to work within multi-cultural values, feelings, capabilities, wants, and actions. I sincerely hope that you develop pride in your school and your culture, and that you find your placi; in Ihe world. 1 can look back with pride to my association with you, the students, the teachers, and community. There is a sense of accomplishment that former graduates of Bassett High School have: the doctor ha ing finish(Kl medical school, coming back to the community to practice with self-respect in the same area where he went to high schor)l; Ihe athlete making his mark in the sports world and college, returning to the high school to teach young persons: the self-employed haxing developed a sense of community in high school to work in Ihe business world to foster community self-esteem: Ihe mother and father who view, with dignity, their children follow their footsteps at B.H.S. in sports, in drill learn and in classes. These Bassett graduates have achieved certain goals, but not without pride, self-esteem, self-respect, and dignity. We will continue to provide an educational climate lo insure your place in the world, so that Bassett will be recognized as a greal high school, recognizmg man ' s distinctness, working with pride for an open society. Sincereh .
