As a child in school she remembers that there were no clubs or sports and most of their days were spent working on school assignments, except In the middle of the day which in Cuba is siesta time, or a time to rest. Outside of school they would have dances and parties on special occasions. These dances and parties sometimes lasted over several days. 18

Dlstribuuve Education Being raised In a national forest may seem a little odd to some people but not to Mr. Bush who was raised in a small town in the center of the Great Smoky Moun- tains National Forest, Fontana, N.C. The school he attended was in one build- ing and contained grades one through twelve. The principal actually taught five classes daily. After high school, Mr. Bush continued his education at Appalachian State Uni- versity where he received a B.S. in English. He began his teaching career at Gretna and has been at B.Y. for four years. 20
