Besides her skilled work in the class- room, she has devoted many hours to the Athletic Department both as an advi- sor to the cheerleaders and as an ardent Buccaneer Fan. We, the 1979 Yan-Tat take great pride in dedicating the year- book to Mrs. Thyra Smith. 17 CASWELL COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION Jim Millner Arm Everitt O.M. Dabbs, Jr. James Ashby Vice-Chairman James Y. Thoughts are forever remembered and seldom changed at all. Futures still are built of dreams but the stongest sometimes fail. Of what of past acquaintances, and people we have known. Were impressions true of them or were their ways unshown. And what does lie in store for us, in the future yet to come. Will all wants yet fulfilled, for most but not for some. To feel that ones betrayed, you may be exactly right. But still you once knew them well and ill feelings you still may fight. But to forgive those who have wronged you is a stronger character trait. Though there are those not worth forgiving and malice is their fate. And what of two blank destinies that are different, but perhaps the same. Are they both yet better off before the other came? But friendship always remains intact and forever bond lives still. They support us in our lives each day and problems they help fill. For friends remain forever friends, despite how long they part. To remember those that we have known is perhaps the greatest trade. To hold on to our memories, to forgive mistakes been made. Our minds will always keep our thoughts, though feeling sometimes lie. Those thoughts will forever remain untouched, though time will always fly. For friends are those you'll always know, but still they're hard to find. But friendship cannot be destroyed, for true friends are in our minds. By Wesley V. Totten CAROL ADAMS SHARON E. ALDRIDGE VICKIE R. ALLEN D. SHEREE ANDERSON ASENITH BIGELOW KEITH BIGELOW LORIA A. The Class of Seventy-Nine. By: Amanda Briggs. SALLY L. WRIGHT Senior Class: Flower: White Carnation Color: Blue and White Motto: Learn today as if you will live forever, live today as if you will die tomorrow. 65 rresiaent: Martinique Vice-President: Georgia SmitK Secretary: Wesley Totten Treasurer: Dennis Lofti 66 HERE'S TO THE CLASS OF 67 The time has almost come for us to say good-bye; To the place we've spent our last three years, that's B.Y. . . . Like yesterday it seems we were in elementary school, learning reading, writing, and arithmetic; Now we're almost through with trig, algebra, and learning how to contradict. Seems only months ago we were looking up to people who were where we are; Now, like magic we are there, we've come this far. It's almost time for us to leave this great old school; Where we've been disciplined and taught the golden rules . . . We've got to leave the people that have tried to guide and lead; The teachers, the counselors, the principal, all of whom want to see us secceed. Whether it's a lawyer or doctor, whichever is your selection; Don't settle for less, try to reach the standards of perfection. Set your goals realistically and higher than what you want to achieve; And you will find your reward will be great, that which you receive. So good-bye B.Y. and my fellow friends; I hope before too long we shall meet again. As we retire form this institute of higher learning; My friends let the memories we share keep on burning . . . The Band de- mands hard work and intelligence from its Members and as a result has proven to be one of the most successful and respected facets of our school and county community. Functioning as a leader of spirit, the marching and pep bands provide entertain- ment, enthusiasm and support to our athletic teams. Band stu- dents can also participate in the Wind Ensemble and Jazz En- semble, which serve to widen their music education as well as to provide concert entertainment in the spring semester. Other im- portant areas of our instrumental music department are the Flag Corps, Rifle Corps, and Majorette Team. These squads add color and flash to the marching band and give more students the op- pertunity to participate in an activity which puts them in the hub of campus action. Over the years our band program has become a vital part of the school unit and has created a memory for all of its members. The band is made up of students, and the students take pride in the fact that they have been a part of a family to which they will always belong. A family built of hard work, togetherness, pride, and respect for themselves and from others. 113 fill SPECIAL RECOGNITION Governor's School Afro-American Queen Vickie Johnson, Dossie Poteat, Kathy Nance Exchange Student Angela Siqueiros, Chihuahua, Mexico Felicia Brown Ford High IQ Bowl Kneeling: Sheree Anderson, Donna Lynn Cooper; Stand- ing: Frank Carter — Advisor, Jay Cheek, Martinique Cope- land, Herbert McDowell. 116 EXTENDED DAY The Extended Day Program was formulated and became a reality through the efforts of Mr. Steve William- son, Director of Special Programs for the Caswell County School System and Mr. J.E. Meador, Principal of Bartlett Yancey High School. The program was approved by the State Department of Public Instruction during the summer of 1975. This program offers all citizens of Caswell County the opportunity to continue their educational pursuits regardless of age or grade level. The program provides the following: (1) A flexible curriculum (2) Development of positive attitudes toward self and community (3) An access for re-entry into the regular high school program, this helping the younger students keep options open (4) Individualized counseling whether it be personal, social, educational or vocational Through the Extended Day Program the doors of Bartlett Yancey High School are always open to all citizens of Caswell County for educational improvement through the high school graduate level. The students of the Extended Day program feel that a special thanks should be given to Mr. Williamson and Mr. Meador for their efforts in acquiring this program.
