CLUB BETA The Student Council is composed of chosen representatives from each homeroom. They bring about new suggestions and new ideas to improve life here at B.Y.H.S. The council is advised by J.D. Foster and Worth Moore. They all reach out a helping hand to benefit our school in numerous ways. MLLMA LtNItk aim THE HOBBTT Mrs. Bigelow, Librarian The Media Center is centered around the wonderful world of books. A selected number of students assist Mrs. Alice Bigelow and Mrs. Pat Dai I as they learn the art of caring for the library. SPANISH CLUB The Spanish Club is made up of students who are involved with Spanish customs and traditions. Exchange students from Spanish speaking countries share their experiences with the students. The highlight of this year's club was the trip to Italy by some of the students. Officers: Barry Richmond, Linda Watlington, Pam Thurman, Stephanie Tribble, Sheree Anderson, Robin Crumpton, Sandra King. FRENCH CLUB The French Club is an organization interested in studying the cultural aspects of France. It is made up of students who continue to study and understand the romantic language. Mrs. Mary F. Graves is the club's advisor. FTA The Future Teachers of America is advised by Mrs. Nellie Strader. This club is organized to provide leadership for those who strive to be teachers of tomorrow. 67 MASQUERADER’S DRAMA SOCIETY The Masquerader's Drama Society has swiftly developed into one of Bartlett Yancey's most respected organizations. The improving quality of their performances can be partially attributed to the group's advisor, Frank Carter. The Christmas Carol mmm THE TREASURE CHEST The Treasure Chest serves as a reflection of the past, present, and future. Assignments Features Business Typists QUILL AND SCROLL The Quill and Scroll provides encouragement to those students who are interested in journalism on a related field. 71 MONOGRAM CLUB The Monogram Club is composed of those athletes who have earned a letter in any athletics sport. The club's advisors are Coach Lindsey Page and Coach Jimmy Kistler. AFRO-AMERICAN SOCIETY The Afro-American Society is an active club which continues to grow. The main function of this is to provide entertainment and activities for the student body. The club is sponsored by Mr. Jesse Majette and Mr. John Ferguson. I FCA The Fellowship of Christian athletes is advised by Robert McCain. This club is designed to show the relationship between religion and athletics. The students strive to gain a better understanding of their fellowman. I OFFICERS: Advisor, Sammy Graves, Vanessa Corbett, Derwin Swann, Annettia Watlington, Neal Spivey, Jessie Gwynn, Jeffrey Bigelow. DOO The Directed Office Occupations class members assist teachers who need various secretarial duties performed. This enables these students to receive some of the experience needed to be efficient secretaries. DOO is advised by Mrs. Blanche Page. The goal of the Future Business Leaders of America is reflected in its title. Its members are enrolled in one or more business classes. The highlight of the year is the club's participation in the FBLA State Convention. Mrs. Blanche Page serves as the club's advisor. This national youth organization is directed toward the development of our future leaders. With today's liberated women there is still room in society for our Future Homemakers of America. The girls work toward new horizons in the art of homemaking. The Bartlett Yancey Chapter of the FFA is considered to be one of the best in the state. The organization is active on the community, state and national level. While attending the State and National FFA Conventions, they have obtained numerous awards. This very large and talented group advised by Ralph Sadler and Cyrus Vernon. Senior Officers Horticulture Team 80 Junior Officers Quartet Beef Judging Team Public Speakers State officer, Jeff Rudd, a 1977 graduate of BYSH, has created national publicity for the local FFA Chapter. In the public speaking contest, Jeff placed first in the State, Regional and Tri-State competition, and captured third place in the National contest. We at BY are proud of Jeff and extend to him our appreciation and best wishes in the future. BUS DRIVERS CHESS CLUB The Chess Club is new at BYSH and opens the door to the intriguing world of competition. Mrs. Faye Nelson and Ms. Bobbi Allison serve as advisors. CARPENTRY Carpentry is a two-hour vocational class in which students participate in various building projects. The class is supervised by Richard Underwood. MASONRY Masonry is a two-hour vocational class which students participate in several bricklaying projects. The class is instructed by Mr. Ed Satterfield. Masonry VICA Members BODY AND FENDER The Auto Body Fender class is one of five in the state of North Carolina. This class is designed to teach practical and supportive training and skills to become a better qualified auto repairman. Mr. J.C. Winstead is the class instructor. Body Fender Class Contest Participants AUTO MECHANICS Under the supervision of Hoyt Moore, the Auto Mechanics class of BYSH teaches the basics and fundamentals of mechanical repairs. 3-Year Students Instructor Mr. Hoyt Moore 86 EXTENDED DAY PROGRAM The Extended Day Program was formulated and became a reality through the efforts of Mr. Steve Williamson, Director of Special Programs for the Caswell County School System and Mr. J.E. Meador, Principal of Bartlett Yancey High School. The program was approved by the State Department of Public Instruction during the summer of 1975. This program offers all Citizens of Caswell County the opportunity to continue their educational pursuits regardless of age or grade level. The program provides the following: (1) A flexible curriculum (2) Development of positive attitudes toward self and community (3) An access for re-entry into the regular high school program, thus helping the younger students keep options open (4) Individualized counseling whether it be personal, social, educational or vocational Through the Extended Day Program the doors of Bartlett Yancey High School are always open to all citizens of Caswell County for educational improvement through the high school graduate level. The students of the Extended Day Program feel that a special thanks should be given to Mr. Williamson and Mr. Meador for their efforts in acquiring this program. Many of the students also feel that they are indebted to Mr. Samuel K. Barber for helping them secure jobs and giving them positive attitudes and encouragement about the world of work. GIRL’S ENSEMBLE MALE CHORUS Marsha Murphy, Drum Major 94 Under the direction of Brad Sparks and Roger Roach the BYSH Marching Band won numerous awards during the past year. They took part in various holiday parades and they attended the Central N.C. Band Festival at Asheville. The Buccaneer Band has contributed tremendously to the prestige at BYSH.
