1972 YAN Bartlett Yancey Senior High School Yanceyville, N.C. TAT Editors Tom McPherson Kathy Simmons Janette Smith Phyllis Stanfield BURLINGTON CITY LIMIT A rural area, nestled between growing cities, composed of young and old. Young reaching for the future and old reflecting upon the past. Bartlett Yancey is our place. People from different backgrounds knitted together by friendship and pride. Each individual doing his own thing, but making it happen for everybody. Contents Dedication 4 Annual Staff 5 Administration, Faculty, Staff 9 Senior Class 17 Junior Class 41 Sophomore Class 49 Organization 59 Features 77 Sports 85 Dedication You would think she was a student so small and high-spirited, but she's really one of the leaders. She can be found in almost any place; in the office, in a classroom, or in the hall socializing. She is ready any time to lend a helping hand and help solve your problems. Her warm smile and her pleasant disposition make her one of the most respected and best loved persons around school. We, the Yearbook Staff of Bartlett Yancey Senior High School, take this opportunity to express our thanks to our guidance counselor. Through her guidance and hard work, she has helped unite the student body and faculty to make this school one to be proud of. She has shown us that a group of people from different backgrounds can work together toward a common goal. For these reasons, we dedicate the 1972 Yan-Tat to Miss Jane Marie Pointer. 4 The Annual Staff 5 The Authors Row One — Tom McPherson, Kathy Simmons, Janette Smith, Phyllis Stanfield. They meet frequently to discuss old constitutions and draw up new ones. They help to sponsor school activities to bring the students of our school closer together. They help the administration govern our school by giving them the students' opinions about various issues. Some of their activities include sponsoring dances and selling parking stickers. Drama: The need for proficiency in the communications skills is the basic reason for the existance of the speech and drama. The transitional period in our society which is charac- terized by more leisure time makes it imperative that more wholesome entertainment is provided. Dramatic Presentation will provide for this. Speech: Effective argumentation through organized debate is another one of our objectives. Through these activities participants in the Speech and Drama will become competi- tive with other schools throughout North Carolina. The club belongs to the North Carolina Debating Union and Carolina Dramatics Association and North Carolina Speech Associa- tion.
