■ — f m ! CLuSS HISTORY iiftcr eleven happy years at Bartlett Yancey School we assemble:! on the twenty-ninth of august to resume our studies as seniors. Thirty-one of cur original class members and one new member, Joe Il» Morton, began the year,. Later, Anno Ashmore joined our class giving us a total of thirty-three ' members. In addition to the scholastic and social activities of the busy seniors they sponsored an operetta The Gypsy Trou¬ badour , written by Effa Preston and Don Wilson, was presented to a large and attentive audience on the nights of the eight- enth and ninetenth of April Under the excellent direction of Miss Grctchen Webster end with the splendid cooperation of the class, we presented a program of which we were very proud In gratitude to Miss Webster for her assistance in making our oper¬ etta a success the class presented her with four pieces of her chosen pattern in silver The proceeds of the Operetta made it possible for us to leave fifty dollars each to the Girls ' and Boys ' Basketball Teams for the.purchase of new basketball suits.- We also left fifty dollars for the erection of a memorial. In appreciation for Mr. D H. Abell ' s guidance and under¬ standing throughout our school days the Glass presented him with a table lamp. Gn May eightenth, thirty-seven seniors enjoyed a bac¬ calaureate address presented by Rev. J. G Phillips of Dur¬ ham, North Carolina. Four members had been added to our graduating class as they had successfully completed their high school work. May the ninetenth marked the end of our days at Bartlett Yancey High when we received our diplomas. ' We left Bartlett Yancey with mingled feelings of joy and regret and with a wish in our hearts that our future days would bring as much joy to us as the days that we had known here.
