Made up of mostly Boatswain Mates First Division IS responsible for the upkeep and appearance of most of the exterior areas of the ship A ship is frequently judged by her seamanship abilities. Almost all seamanship evolutions conducted by todays Navy are t carried out by the Boatswain Mates. Among those evolutions which rely upon the skills of the deck force personnel are anchorings, moorings, underway replenishments, logistic replenishments, and vertical replenishments, personnel highlines and light-line transfers, small boat fGig and Motor Whale Boatj operations, as well as look-out and all enlisted pilot house watch stations fexcept quartermaster of the watchj.
