EXECUTIVE OFFICER LCDR M. W. Brannon LCDR Brannon was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated fi-om Miami, University, in Oxford, Ohio in 1976. He enlisted in the U.S. Na y in February 1977. He was commissioned an Ensign upon completion of Officer Candidate School. Newport, Rl in October 1978. LCDR Brannon ' s first assignment was aboard USS GARCIA (FF 1040) where he served as Damage Control Assistant until September 1982. A shore tour followed at Navy Recruiting District Columbus, OH until he reported to Department Head School in September 1985. Upon completion of Department Head School LCDR Brannon served as Engineer Officer in USS PENSACOLA (LSD 38) and Engineer Officer in USS JOHN KING (DDG 3). He reported to the staff of Commander Destroyer Squadron Two in March 1990 as Staff Material Officer. He reported to USS BARNSTABLE COUNTY (LSTl 197) as Executive Officer in February 1992. LCDR Brannon is married to the former Denise Bennett ofGahanna, Ohio. They have two children Jessica and Mishele and currently reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

COMMANDING OFFICER Commander H. W, NaegeVy Jr, Commander Henri W. Naeger was born in Long Island. New York on 23 April 1 952 and is a native of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. After graduat- ing from Ste. Genevieve Public High School in 1970, he attended the U.S. Naval Academy and received his commission in June 1974. Commander Naeger ' s initial sea tow was onboard USS ELMER MONTGOMERY (FF 1082) as Communications Officer. Following this assignment he servedfor two years with the Second Air and Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (2ND ANGLICO) in Fleet Marine Force at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was then assigned to the USS EL PASO (LKA 1 J 7) and sen ' ed as Deck Division Officer and Damage Control Assistant from 1978-198L Successive sea tours followed after graduation from Department Head School in December 1981. and included Engineer Officer on USS GARCIA (FF 1040), First Lieutenant on USS LAMOURE COUNTY (LST 1194). Damage Control Assistant on USS AMERICA (CV 66) and Executive Officer onboard USS HARLAN COUNTY (LST 1 196). Commander Naeger ' s last assignment was with the Strategic Sealift Division (N42) on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington, D.C. Commander Naeger ' s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (three awards) and the Navy Achievement Medal (hvo awards). Commander Naeger is married to the former Helen Barnett of Dunedin. New Zealand. They have four children, Frederick, A aron. Henri III and Melissa. They reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

USS BARNSTABLE COUNTY COMMAND SENIOR CHIEF ENCS Main HISTORY OF USS BARNSTABLE COUNTY USS BARNSTABLE COUNTY is named for Barnstable County. Massachusetts andits county seat, the town of Barnstable, located on Cape Cod. It is the second U.S. Navy ship to bear the name. The BARNSTABLE COUNTY keel was laid 19 December 1970 and launched 2 October 1971 at national Steel and Ship Building Company. San Diego, California. BARNSTABLE COUNTY was commissioned at Long Beach, California and after an interfleet transfer, was assigned to the Amphibious Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet on 27 May 1972. Since the commissioning, BARNSTABLE COUNTY has made ten major deployments and participated in numerous operations and exercises including: • Mediterranean Deployments in 1974, 1979, 1980. 1981. 1983 (operations of Multinational Peace Keeping Force, Beirut, Lebanon and tactical withdrawal of U.S. troops from Lebanon), 1985 and 1989. • North Atlantic Deployments in 1978, 1981, and 1982, (Operation Smokey Topaz). • First U. S. warship to transit Suez Canal in 1974 since its closing in 1967. • Participation in operation Urgent Fury (rescue operations on Grenada 26 October 1 983). • Participation in West African Training Cruise, 1987 UNlTAS XXVIII and West African Training Cruise 1990. UNITASXXXIl and West African Training Cruise 1991. • Participation in Operation Sharp Edge (rescue operations during the Liberian Civil War August - November 1990)
