Juniors David Allen and Patty Groves were chosen for Know Your State Government day. Election Day . . . Ike won over Steven- son . . . We could have told them that. Veterans' Day . . . Observation . . . no books! Commodores Uuniorsj chose their officers. President, David Allen, Vice- President, Robert Rowseyg Secretary, Randy Jeffrey, Treasurer, Sam Mc- Conkey. Clean Up Week . Cur classmate, Jim Lind, was admitted to St. Mary's hospital. As of today, January 29, 1957, he is well on the road to recovery . . . Sadie I-Iawkin's Day dance . . . Contest winners were Beryl Linthicum and Jim Myers, typical Dogpatch couple, Pat Linger, typical Dogpatch girl, David Allen, typical Dogpatch boy. The United Nations essay winners were announced. First place went to Jackie Dent, second, Donna Johnson, and third, Patty Groves. A special Thanksgiving program was given. The speaker was Reverend Cox, and music was by the Glee Club. Practice teachers joined our staff. Car- mel Adkins, assistant to Mrs. Couturie, Skip Barrett, assistant to Mrs. Allen, and Donald Ray, assistant to Mr. Mc- Carty. December came in with a bang', . . . On Decem- ber 1, the Band sponsored a carnival. A king and queen were crowned, who were David Allen and Barbara Jef- ferson. DECEMBER 3 The Four Bs represented Barboursville in a Cabell County Teachers Associa- tion meeting. DECEMBER 6 The Glee Club sang at the Wo1mn's Club in Barboursville. DECEMBER 8 The Senior Who's Who', was an- nounced. DECEMBER 13 Coach Larose of St. Albans, delivered the Chemical Valley trophy back to the Pirates. DECEMBER 13 The Journalism Club went to Robin- sonis Lake Side Inn for dinner. DECEMBER 15 The Boosters Club presented a 24 Philco television set to Barboursville High School at the football banquet. I P . DECEMBER Basketball season opened with a Buc- caneer loss handed to us from East. DECEMBER Library Club luncheon. DECEMBER The Glee Club presented a special Christmas program over WSAZ-TV. DECEMBER Latin Club dance. DECEMBER The Shorthand Club held a dance at the Lionis Club. DECEMBER Seventy-four made a 3.5 average or better. DECEMBER Greg Porter and Clarence Martin were chosen for the all-state football team from our school. January saw the Close of the first semester. The weather was COLD, sometimes getting down below zero. January was full of many losses for the Pirates' team but also a few wins. We saw the first movie for this year, at school. When February rolled around, some wondered where the past few months had gone. People were busy paying for club pins, annual balance, senior announce- ments and calling cards. We saw College Day, movies, regional and state wrestling and Know Your State Government day. Mrs. Allen accompanied the juniors to Charleston. Gn February 15, our band sponsored a Sweetheart Dance. In March, we attended the annual majorette show. It was Strictly for the Birdsf, Dr. Harry Wilson visited Huntington to direct the Cabell County High School Chorus. On March 28, the seniors learned their lines and presented the Senior Play. We'll never forget April. It was a month of movies, all-state glee clubs, and the Junior-Senior Banquet. May was a month for seniors. It's the time for last minute details. Most of us were rushing around for last minute information on jobs, business schools and colleges. We saw regional and state track meets. On May 3 and,4, the Band Festival was in Huntington. All through May, there were sectional, regional and state basketball tournaments. May 17 was the date of the memorable Prom, the one event that students never forget. Senior week started on May 22. Baccualaureate was held on May 26. On May 27, the seniors bid fare- well to teachers and friends at Commencement. On May 28, 1957, the seniors, juniors and sophomores left our ship. For many, it was the last Voyage on the Good Ship, Buccaneer. The juniors and sophomores will be on board next September to carry on with the journey. , The three year voyage was full of new experiences for all. The trip was one never to forget. There were smiles, tears, bad grades . . . and good. When you look back on it a long time from now, I know that you will think, It seems like only yester- day. Page Nineteen
