3 5, Q .H g U55 Barbour Counry HISTORY CONSTRUCTION OF USS USS BARBOUR COUNTY CLST 11955 WAS BEGUN ON 15 AUGUST 1970 IN KEEL-LAYING CEREMONIES AT NATIONAL STEEL AND SHIPBUILDING COMPANY IN SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA. SHE WAS CHRISTENED AND LAUNCHED ON 15 MAY 1971. BARBOUR COUNTY WAS DELIVERED TO THE NAVY ON 3 FEBRUARY 1972, COMMISSIONED ON 12 FEBRU- ARY 1972, AND ASSIGNED TO THE AMPHIBIOUS FORCES OF THE PACIFIC FLEET. BARBOUR COUNTY'S HISTORY IS ONE OF REGULAR SUSTAINED DEPLOYMENTS TO THE WESTERN PACIFIC AND INDIAN OCEAN. SHE HAS MADE A GOODWILL VISIT TO CALLO, PERU, A SPECIAL OPERATIONS MISSION IN THE NORTH PACIFIC, AND TEN EXTENDED DEPLOY- MENTS: SEPTEMBER 1973 - MARCH 1974 MARCH 1975 - NOVEMBER 1975 CSOUTH EAST ASIA REFUGEE EVACUATIONI SEPTEMBER 1977 - APRIL 1978 APRIL 1979 - OCTOBER 1979 OCTOBER 1980 - APRIL 1981 CINDIAN OCEAN CONTINGENCYJ JANUARY 1983 - JULY 1983 JANUARY 1986 - JULY 1986 AUGUST 1987 - FEBRUARY 1988 QPERSIAN GULFXSOUTHERN PACIFIC ISLANDS? EXECUTIVE OFFICER LIEUTENANT COMMANDER JAMES M. BEAVER UNITED STATES NAVY A native of Reno, Nevada, LCDR Beaver graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1977. His sea tours include USS MORTON CDD-9481. Where he served as Boilers Officer, main propulsion assistant, and first lieutenant, USS Mount Vernon CLSD 391 as combat information center officer, USS Tripoli KLPH 105 as propulsion assistant and repair officer, USS Davidson QFF 10455 as Operations Officer, and USS MISSOURI CBB 633 as navigator. He reported to USS Barbour County CLST 11951 as Executive Officer. LCDR Beaver's service ashore has been at landing force training center Pacific. As an embarkation instructor, and department head school in Newport, Rhode Island. LCDR Beaver wears the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal fsecond awardl, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two bronze stars, Battle 'E' Ribbon, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. . LCDR Beaver is married to the former Jamison I Short also of Reno. The couple have three children and currently reside in San Diego.
