Mission The mission of BARBOUR COUNTY is to embark, transport, and land marines. Due to her unique design she is able to accomplish this task. She is able to sustain speeds in excess of 20 knots and operate with a mod- ern, high speed amphibious task force. With a flat bottom design, BARBOUR COUNTY is able to land on a sandy beach where equipment is offloaded over a 35 foot bow ramp. A second ramp, the between decks ramp, provides rapid vehicle access to the main deck and bow ramp from the tank deck. BARBOUR COUNTY also has a stern gate for the launching and recovery of am- phibious assault vehicles. A large helicopter landing deck further enhances BARBOUR COUNTY'S role as a front line amphibious warship.
