The ship ' s two boilers burned over 3,000,000 gallons of fuel which added up to quite a bill Ion Barbey ' s credit card! The evaporators produced over 2,000,000 gallons of feed water and just over 1,500,000 gallons of fresh water. Barbey received mail 37 times underway and 60 times inport for a total of 20,300 lbs. The crew kept those letters and bill payments going out with a total of $6,613.53 worth of stamps and over $196,000 worth of money orders dispensed from the post office. Underway time amounted to 147 days with 64 days spent inport. During the deployment, Barbey proudly earned the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and Navy Expeditionary Medal for her Indian Ocean duty. To top off an outstanding deployment, Barbey was awarded the Destroyer Squadron Thirty-One Ba ttle Efficiency E , her second in a row! Tasmj 78
