CHO0L HI 'l'0RY The first school in Banner County was held in the second story of the old grade school, District 5, before it burned down about 1930. Later land was donated by Mr. and Hrs. C. M. Shafto on which the high school was finished in 1917. The first teacher who taught High School was Helen C. Begen who taught in the years of 1915-16. Second was Nettle Shively who taught in 1916-17. In 1917-18 the first regular school term was held. Hrs. Glenn Love, formerly Gladys Cross was the first graduate. Since then many improvements have been made. In 1925 the first major improvement was made when the dormitory was built. In 1929 Ego gym asium eac ers. was constructed with two apartments above the east end for e Later this was converted into one apartment. A new modern teacherage was built east of the school in the summer of 1951. The school building was enlarged, venetlon blinds put on the south side and storm windows put on the north. A new furnace, a stage, a time clock, fanshaped backboards and curtains to help the sound effects were improvements made in the gymnasium. A tape recorder, dupllcator, and a slide projector have been left as rememberances to Banner County High School by some of the classes. In the summer of 1954 the rooms in the dormitory were painted pretty pastel colors and a new bench was built in the reception room. On April 17, 1956, a 35oo,ooo bond issue for a new building was voted upon and passed. Work was started that summer. The workman labored very faithfully trying to complete the building ln time to be used when school started in the fall of 1957. The grade school and junior high were able to start classes in the new building, but the high school had to hold their classes in the old building until the latter part of October. It was a big thrill to all the students as they moved their books and equipment to the new building. In addition to class rooms and offices the building has a gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria, shop, science laboratory, and library.
