Basketball '71 The Banks Braves had their most successful basketball campaign in years, winning sixteen while losing eleven. In Yawama League play the Braves ended with a 12-2 record and its first league championship. In the District tourney, Banks won first seed to the State tourney which is also a first in school history. In the first game at state Banks lost to Coquille of the Sunset Six League, and in the cpnsolation bracket they lost an exciting overtime game to Taft. Two players received All-League and All-State recognition. Junior Warren Clary, who was the team 's second leading scorer with a 13.4 average, won 1st team All-League and Honor- able mention All-State. Junior Dean Marek, the team's leading scorer and rebounder with 18.5 and 16. 0 respect- ively, was 1st team All-League and 5th team All-State. Banks established a league record with a 50. 1 point per game defensive average and they averaged 59. 1 point per game on offense. Winners of the four team awards were presented this year by Coach S1J:oup. Most Inspirational Player of the year was won by Bill Hansen: Most Valuable was Dean Marekg War- ren Clary, claimed Best Defensiveg and Tim Troutman was Most Valuable.
