tyaeA 1 State Polk's shot In the last 5 seconds brought quick defeat for Bancroft. Ahead at halftime 21-19. I On March 9 for the second time in three years, the BHS basketball team traveled to Lincoln for the State Tourney, an exciting event for all. Our chances were great; jumped to an early lead and kept it throughout most of the game. Polk tied the game in the closing moments, recovered possession, and decided to gamble on a stalling game. A last second desperation shot by Polk dropped through for the winning score, 48-46. Polk went on to win the State Championship. Secu K Will I or won't I?? See how high I can jump! ! Members of the Bancroft High School Track team for this year were Dennis Miller, Dennis Engelbart, Lyle Soenksen Allen Cook Richard Ronnenkamp Tom Larsen, Cliff Schilling, Alan Gatzemeyer Adrian Abendroth Ronnie Soenksen Jon Gatzemeyer, Larry Anderson, Charles Kai, and Robert Zobel. Coaches Bill Weddingfeld and Bob Tushla were very pleased with the fine showing and the recognition that they gained for Bancroft. Alan Gatzemeyer, one of the team, ran the mile at 4:57.5 at the District Track Meet which was held at Norfolk. This placed him second and won him a berth at the State Track Meet. Another member who almost went to state was Charles Kai, but because of a leg injury suffered that day he failed to make it.
