Color Day King Arlen Queen Ruth On Tuesday evening, February 2, the-Fourteenth annual Color Day was held in Bancroft High School. Mr. Ec'ntenkamp welcomed the huge crowd, and introduced the President of the Pep Club, Miss Glenda Gatrost. Miss Gatrost gave a few remarks about the day's happenings and gave a short history of Color Day. Then, as the drums rolled and the lights were lowered. Miss Dianne Canarsky, dressed in a white formal of ruffled net edged in yellow, cut the hoop that hid the attendants, and the procession began. First came the Vice President of the Pep Club, Miss Sherri Dixon, and Miss Mary Leimer, Secretary-Treasurer of the Pep Club. Sherri wore a beautiful peacock blue street length dress and a white wrist corsage. Mary wore a powder blue ballerina formal and a white corsage. Next came the Queen and King of 1959, Miss Karen Bargmann and Gary Slmonsen. Karen wore a teal blue dress and was given a gilt-edge corsage. The next couple through the hoop were the tiny crown bearers, Mona Carey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Carey, and Todd Slmonsen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ardell Simonsen. They were dressed in a white dress and suit; Mona wore a pink corsage anu Tuaa an orange boutonniere. The next couple in the spot light were the freshman attendants. Miss Cyrena Grone and Clifford Schilling. Cyrena wore a beautiful buttercup yellow formal with inserts of delicate green embroidery. Clifford wore a grey striped suit. The Sophomore atendants were Miss Rose Dittberner and Ronnie Soenksen. Rose appeared in a white ruffled net formal and pink corsage. Ronnie wore a grey suit and white boutonniere. Miss Sharon Raascn and Charles Kal represented the Junior class. Sharon wore a white ruffled ballerina length formal with powder blue embroidery which was complimented by a pink corsage. The first Senior couple to be spotlighted was Miss Kayleen Kessinger and Dennis Nelson. Kayleen Kessinger was attired in a beautiful mint green and white floor length formal. Dennis wore a light suit and white boutonniere. The last couple to be spotlighted was Miss Ruth Semrau and Arlan Bargmann. Ruth was beautifully gowned in a canary yellow floor length formal of ruffled net. Arlan wore a dark suit and a white boutonniere. The piano was played by Miss Glenda Gatrost who wore a pink ballerina length formal and white wrist corsage. When everyone was in place the lights were raised and the King and Queen of 1959 came forward and opened the sealed envelopes inside the crowns. The climax of the evening came when Ruth Semrau and Arlan Bargmann were Crowned Queen and King of I960. The crowns were fashioned of beautiful white velvet and were highlighted with white sequins. The Vice President of the Pep Club, Miss Sherri Dixon, presented the corsages to the Queen and her attendant. The Queen's dress was accented with the large purple orchid which was given by the Mayberry Florists of Pender, and her attendant was given a beautiful carnation corsage. Miss Mary Leimer presented the gifts at this time. The girls all received lewelry and the boys were given cuff link sets or billfolds, each gift being Just a little different. The Queen, daughter of Mr. anc Mrs. Arthur Semrau received a beautiful rhinestone necklace and the King son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Batgmann, was given a set of cuff links and matching tie bar. The Royalty took their places on the throne which was beautifully decorated in Deep Purple. There they reigned the rest of the evening to watch the Bulldogs claim another victory ovei eemer. The score of the game was 49-39. After the game a free dance was held in the gym in honor of the Royalty of 1960.
