HISTORY CON ' T EPocH 111 qmoderny Thls epoch covers the Semor year the most glorlous and most glamor our perlod 1n the lustory of our lllustrlous class We were an outstandlng group from the very begmmng but our crowmng glory came durxng the later years One of the b1gg8Sf h1gh l1tes was Color Day Torn Canarsky and Sherrl Zobel were crowned klng and queen of 1957 Don Lerlger and Wenda Block were semor attendants Our class ln the beglnnmg years comprlsed the followlng members Judy Buchholz Bette Benson Sxgrlda Br1ed1s and Larry Peterson who for some reason or another have wandered off To help makeup for th1s loss we welcomed 1nto our class Don Lerlger Otherwlse we have the same brlght and shlnmg stars w1th whom we had journeyed durlng most of our anclent and medleval perlods the same masterful lntellects that brought us safely through the grades the same comblned w1ll power and determlnatlon to succeed We were all set to forge ahead Nothmg could stop us We were l1ke unto a steam roller Not all the Klng s horses nor all the Kmg s men could hold us back The go1ng has not always been smooth but ln add1t1on to our own w1ll power we have been fortunate ln havlng an able and sympathlc prmclpal and superlntendent w1th an equally capable corp of asslstants to pllot us through the rough passages We must admlt that some snags and dlfflculty were encountered along the way ln studles etc Sclence however found a champ1on 1n J1m Meyer Home Econormcs 1n Joyce Neel and Industrlal Arts 1n Myron Bemeke Dramatics took a great strlde forward brmgmg to hght some amazmg talent wh1ch lf glven the proper tra1n1ng and exploltatlon under professlonal guldance would no doubt develop natlonal or lnternatxonal celebrltles Among these potentxal stars were Judy Ostrand and Tom Canarsky as leadlng lady and leadlng man So popular d1d these two become that for a tlme Hollywood careers were consldered L1kew1se d1d th1s epochproduce several artists of muslcal and oratorlcal ab1l1ty of extremely h1gh calllbre For lnstance Carol Koehler Marge Raasch and Bonme Krueger Can you blame us for belng proud of our class of 19579 We are w1ll1ng to submlt the dec1s1on to the most cr1t1cal of Judges, that ours has been the most remarkable class that Bancroft Hlgh School has produced Who IS there to challenge 1t'P Thus ends the hlstory of th1s wonderful class except for the future ln fluence lt may have upon the natlon and the world The followmg people have been class off1cers durlng our four years of h1gh school Rod Garzen eyer PRESIDENT Tom Canarsky VICE PRESIDENT Sherrx Zobel SECRETARY TREASURER Iudle Buchholz NEWS REPORTER SUFHOHUBES Torn Canarsky PRESIDENT Par Garzemeyer VICE PRESIDENT Jackie Crowell SECRETARY TREASLRER Carol Lee Koehler NEWS REPORTER Tom Canarsky PRESIDENT Shern Zobel VICE PRESIDENT Carol Lee Koehler SECRETARY TREASURER Bette Benson INEWS REPORTER Tom Canarsky PRESIDENT Don Lerxger VICE PRESIDENT Shern Zobel SECRETARY TREASURER Carol Lee Koehler 81 Marge Raasch NEWS REPORTERS , J I ' . - . SENIOR PROPHECY As I was s1tt1ng on a park bench 1n Bancroft C1ty Park the other day ponder1ng on what to WPIIB for th1s prophecy who should pass by me but the strangest 1ook1ng personage I ever had seen He was extremely dark sk1nned wore a sort of turban upon h1s head a pa1r of baggy br1tches on h1s sk1nny legs and to top lt all a most pecul1ar pa1r of glasses of unusual s1ze and of an extra ordlnary rn1nt green color Be1ng very cur1ous of the funny glasses and h1m I asked hxm to be seated and started 1nqu1r1ng He told me he was an Eastern seer or prophet The glasses were such you could look 1nto the future w1th Eureka' Here was Just what I wanted He handed the glasses to me and I looked 1nto the future ten years from now and here 1S what I saw The f1rst place I saw was an Off1C6 1n London where Pat Gatzemeyer was s1tt1ng smok1ng a b1g fat c1gar Everybody thought Pat would be a coach be1ngs he was an athletlcs star 1n school but here he was a woman s dress deslgner I heard h1m say to h1S beautlful secretary Joyce Neel that Wenda Block 1S h1s most famous model 1n Par1s Now the glasses sw1tched the p1cture to Dallas Texas where I f1nd Jackle Crowell s1tt1ng on the fence ofaranchwatch1ng a rodeo put on by her husband Myron Hermelbracht The focus 1S now on Rosalle Nebraska Joan Larsen and Darrell Mlller are l1v1ng on a farm there Joan chose the farm to ra1se her f1Ve boys so that they could learn to r1de horses too The scene changes to Wash1ngton D C to the Pentagon where Margery Raasch 15 1n her off1ce the head of the WAF s of the Un1ted States She started 1n the WAF s by play1ng 1n the Amr Force Band A blur and next the s1ght of Hollywood appears There at a mov1e re hearsal sat Mylon Beutler who IS a scout for f1nd1ng chorus g1rls I took the glasses from my eyes and bhnked 1n the br1ght sunl1ght I put them up aga1n and th1s t1me I saw a baseball game 1n New York C1ty be tween the New York Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers 1n the World Ser1es A p1tcher had just made the wmnlng str1ke out of the serles As the face of the p1tcher became clearer I d1scovered xt was no other than Don Lerxger The v1ew was stuck w1th sports for the tune be1ng The town 1S now lndlanapohs Indlana and the track of the Indlanapohs Speed Ways It 1S on Memor1al Day and the trophy has Just been presented to Rodney Gatzemeyer w1th h1s new racer It was h1s tenth v1ctory Well I m back to Nebraska Wa1th1ll th1s t1me I see Jeanette Peterson walk1ng down ma1n street w1th her ch1ldren She and Darrell Shademan got rnarrled soon after graduatlon Whew' Where d1d all that dust come from? As the dust clears If1nd the scene 1S Cheyenne Wyom1ng and Carolyn Luedke has Just f1n1shed the charnp1on trxck r1d1ng act Hm m m I m back to Hollywood aga1n Th1s t1rne I see Torn Canarsky s1ng1ng on TV He s try1ng to br1ng the Elvxs Presley era back to popular1ty He works as a mort1c1an part tune for the Presley era 1sn t com1ng back too fast Just as a TV camera swxtches from one scene to another the glasses do also Las Vegas xt IS There we f1nd B111 Presser w1nn1ng another poker game They say he s a real shark A p1nk 1967 Cad1llac draws up 1n front of the hall and B111 gets 1n But wa1t who s the dr1ver'7 It must be h1s w1fe Bonme Krueger Whew' That was a qu1ck change It 15 New York aga1n th1s t1me I m shown the v1ew of a TV studlo It seems P1nky Lee has been 111 and they have a new man for h1s part But wa1t, he looks fam1l1ar Why lt s nobody else but Norman P1nky Petersen J 1 .
