SENIOR HISTORY EPOCH lAnc1entl In the beglnnlng God must have created materlal for thls famous Class of 1957 otherw1se how would such a wonderful class be ln exlstence today to astomsh ourselves and to astound the world? Marvel of Marvels' I suppose the ear11er year of our class must be C1aSS1f1ed as the green freshman year or Anc1ent h1story And belng anclent those early years are so shrouded 1n mystery that much of It may now be consldered more mythxcal than real One amusmng myth concerns Carolyn Luedke who at the t1me our story begms had reached the age of thlrteen Carolyn was a shy tlmld creature 1f you can lmaglne such a thlng afrald almost to say her soul was her own Mylon Beutler on the other hand was exactly her oppos1te One th1ng of of wh1ch Mylon was more scared though was the stern appearance of Mlss Jones the teacher Another legend that dates back poss1bl to the f1rSt year Of school 15 the famous red apple legend of wluch most ofyyou are no doubt famxhar But d1d you know that lt actually orlgmated w1th th1s famous class of ours It was B111 Presser who brought a lovely red apple daxly to Mrs Wells who ln var1able bestowed upon h1m a grac1ous smlle and somet1mes a sweet k1ss But do you know where these lovely apples really came from and how they came xnto h1s POSSBSSIOII9 Well 1n d1fference to B111 s honor and good name I shall not reveal the secret Another sxmllar story concerns Jeanette Peterson who won favors w1th her teacher through the presentatlon of flowers asters chrysanthemums daffodlls hlacs and sweet peas each 1n the1r season It seemed to work hke a charm alded perhaps by Jeanette s happy go lucky d1spos1t1on EPOCH II qmedievan The perxod from the sophomore year and on through the Jumor year I shall deslgnate as the Medleval Perlod The members of the class were grow1ng w1ser and more alert mentally as well as stronger 1n body and taller mn stature Norman Petersen was shootmg upward l1ke a mushroom out growmg Ins clothes by the m1nute Athletlcs flourlshed dur1ng these eventful years football basketball and track each 1n 1tS proper season Many laurels and some troph1es were won 1n the contests w1th ne1ghbor1ng towns Football was 1n vogue w1th a l1ne up cons1st1ng of Rodney Gatzemeyer as center and Ronme Le1mer as back Basketball was common dur1ng the long evenlngs w1th Pat Gatzemeyer as the llie of the game Naturally these events dxstracted somewhat from the homework of the class Pep Club act1v1t1es proved an lmportant part w1th the cheerleadmg and officers peppmg up the boys w1th ral11es and arrangmg ways to games to cheer for the boys Darlene Doht Wenda Block Jack1e Crowell and Sherrl Zobel cheered our boys to vlctory All through the years another ep1dem1c ran 1ts course that of puppy love It requlred strenous and sk1llful treatment to overcome It The most ser1ously affected however were Joan Larsen and Darrel Mxller who 1n fact have not even to th1s wr1t1ng actually recovered from the malady Of course there were tales concermng th1s per1od tales of ghostly pranks romantlc ep1sodes and darlng escapades but wh1ch 1n the 11ght of later events have faded 1nto 1ns1gn1f1cance 1 - 1 1 1 . 1 1 1 . 1 1 . 1 1 1 . 1 1 1 . . . . . . . . . , ' 1 . . . . . . , - 1 1 1 1 1 ' . . . y u - . . . 1 . . , ' -- ' 1 . . 1 1 , -- 1 1 1 1 1 1 . 1 1

HISTORY CON ' T EPocH 111 qmoderny Thls epoch covers the Semor year the most glorlous and most glamor our perlod 1n the lustory of our lllustrlous class We were an outstandlng group from the very begmmng but our crowmng glory came durxng the later years One of the b1gg8Sf h1gh l1tes was Color Day Torn Canarsky and Sherrl Zobel were crowned klng and queen of 1957 Don Lerlger and Wenda Block were semor attendants Our class ln the beglnnmg years comprlsed the followlng members Judy Buchholz Bette Benson Sxgrlda Br1ed1s and Larry Peterson who for some reason or another have wandered off To help makeup for th1s loss we welcomed 1nto our class Don Lerlger Otherwlse we have the same brlght and shlnmg stars w1th whom we had journeyed durlng most of our anclent and medleval perlods the same masterful lntellects that brought us safely through the grades the same comblned w1ll power and determlnatlon to succeed We were all set to forge ahead Nothmg could stop us We were l1ke unto a steam roller Not all the Klng s horses nor all the Kmg s men could hold us back The go1ng has not always been smooth but ln add1t1on to our own w1ll power we have been fortunate ln havlng an able and sympathlc prmclpal and superlntendent w1th an equally capable corp of asslstants to pllot us through the rough passages We must admlt that some snags and dlfflculty were encountered along the way ln studles etc Sclence however found a champ1on 1n J1m Meyer Home Econormcs 1n Joyce Neel and Industrlal Arts 1n Myron Bemeke Dramatics took a great strlde forward brmgmg to hght some amazmg talent wh1ch lf glven the proper tra1n1ng and exploltatlon under professlonal guldance would no doubt develop natlonal or lnternatxonal celebrltles Among these potentxal stars were Judy Ostrand and Tom Canarsky as leadlng lady and leadlng man So popular d1d these two become that for a tlme Hollywood careers were consldered L1kew1se d1d th1s epochproduce several artists of muslcal and oratorlcal ab1l1ty of extremely h1gh calllbre For lnstance Carol Koehler Marge Raasch and Bonme Krueger Can you blame us for belng proud of our class of 19579 We are w1ll1ng to submlt the dec1s1on to the most cr1t1cal of Judges, that ours has been the most remarkable class that Bancroft Hlgh School has produced Who IS there to challenge 1t'P Thus ends the hlstory of th1s wonderful class except for the future ln fluence lt may have upon the natlon and the world The followmg people have been class off1cers durlng our four years of h1gh school Rod Garzen eyer PRESIDENT Tom Canarsky VICE PRESIDENT Sherrx Zobel SECRETARY TREASURER Iudle Buchholz NEWS REPORTER SUFHOHUBES Torn Canarsky PRESIDENT Par Garzemeyer VICE PRESIDENT Jackie Crowell SECRETARY TREASLRER Carol Lee Koehler NEWS REPORTER Tom Canarsky PRESIDENT Shern Zobel VICE PRESIDENT Carol Lee Koehler SECRETARY TREASURER Bette Benson INEWS REPORTER Tom Canarsky PRESIDENT Don Lerxger VICE PRESIDENT Shern Zobel SECRETARY TREASURER Carol Lee Koehler 81 Marge Raasch NEWS REPORTERS , J I ' . - .
