Almost all of the classrooms received new pan- eling and a new roof was added. From the deafening noises of the drills to the classes fighting over who would use the library, the school has received a new improved look of which we can be proud. There is still much to be finished though. Soon, grounds will be broken to build a new wing and all heck will break loose again. The new wing, scheduled to be completed by the fall of 1989 will include a new library, home economics room, and music room. Bamberg l-ligh School will then include grades 6-12. 2 1 'swf' -s ,. i . .sf :ss-N w il asv- -'W-'t ' 6 - Feature il.. 'wr il' Feature This year's Academic Games commonly known as The Brain Bowl, took place at Zweibrucken High School on November 19-21. The students stayed at the French l-lotet along with teams and spon- sors from 25 other DODDS high schools. Ms. Susan Culbertson, the spon- sor of RAHS's team, said, Although we lost our first two matches, three days of interacting with other stu- dents provided a marvelous oppor- tg. tunity. Every student there WON in the sense that he or she was se- A lected to represent the school. Team members were: Captain - Robert Griffitts, Jeany Tri, Aimee Monette, Todd Anckaitis and alter- nate Edjude Pecson. -uv-. X r fi ig . Feature - 11 BHS Model United Nations REIPREISEHTS SIAIYIOIA The Hague International Model United Nations was held Jan. 26 through Jan. 30, 1988, in Den l-laag, Neth- erlands. Six students from BAHS were chosen to rep- resent the country of Samoa. These students were: Christine O'Brien, Ambassador, Jen Ward, Curtis Thom- as, Gary Waxg Ediude Pecson, and Jim Drewry. To be chosen as a delegate, the students had to be interviewed by a panel of teachers and administrators, They were asked questions concerning world problems and how they would solve them. After being chosen to be a delegate, the students had to prepare for The Hague by doing extensive research on their country and their resolution topics. Schools from all over the world sent delegations to the l-lague, as well as most of the DODDS schools in Europe. Schools from South Africa, Kuwait, Yogoslavia, Thailand, Egypt, Turkey, and the U.S. attended the annual conference. Not only did the students from Bam- berg learn about the country they were representing, but they also had the opportunity to meet people who live in the areas where international problems actually occur. 1 if ,.1 1.1.1-icttiiziziwkx 12 Feature 'hm V 5624 aff X Q in .3 QQ? , S W 'QM r , rx nr N Feature 14 X FEBS 2? lg.. L BAHS 7th and 8th grade students who tested as being above 10th grade level in reading skills found themselves challenged this year by a new course taught by Mrs. Krauchi - a course in writing. No longer would these students be asked to prove their ability in reading skills long-since mastered. Instead, they were asked to sharpen their skills in writing. The class taught basic skills of mechanics of writing and also encouraged students to seek stronger, more effective words to communicate their thoughts. De- scriptive, narrative, and expository writing skills were emphasized. Also, the TAG coordinator, Ms. Culbert- son, came regularly to class to teach journalism skills and prepare the junior high newspaper. Eighth Grade 3 Here's Looking at You Kid SEEING THE SEVENTH GRADE New arrivals mean new Barons. And since this year's seventh grade comprised almost one-fourth of the schooI's population, their entry into Bamberg American high school did not go unnoticed. The little people or kids as the high schoolers so fondly call them adjusted in but a few days to the high school schedule and mode of operation. The seventh grade co-sponsored a Halloween Dance with the eighth grade and participated in the first junior high only assembly. Students who ex- celled in reading participated in the junior high writ- ing program. Leading the seventh grade class was Eddie Hous- ley. Kayla Tabela was elected Vice-President. During the bat- tle, the Barons' strength and spirit blew the Falcons to new heights. How did the football team get so energized? Well, it all began with Spirit Week, during which the whole school showed what Baron power meant. They dressed for l.ife's-a-beach day, 50's day, and nerd day, but on Fri- day, all spirit was released as the student body dressed in the school colors, send- ing blue and gold shockwaves down our halls. The activities during lunch were met with equal enthusiasm. Not only did peo- ple sacrifice their diets to gobble down jars of peanut butter, they also willingly gave up their allowances to give Kell Stovall a sweet pie in the face. Was it all worth it? Our victory speaks for itself. During half-time of the Homecoming Game, our Homecoming court was crowned. King Curtis Thomas and Queen Rhonda Stoffel proudly led Juniors Ediude Pecson and Dawn Holdorf, Sophomores James Northington and Kim Thomas, and Freshmen Eric Feller and Michelle Pete onto the field to receive a royal applause.
