Health and Physical Education Physical Education presented students with new challenges and skills to meet during the past year. For the first time boys took the Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test. They were required to run, climb, and jump over obstacles laid out before them. Besides traditional sports, boys had the opportunity to participate in soccer, wrestling, handball, gymnastics, and weight lifting. During the year sophomore girls covered the basic skills of team sports, folk dancing, and gymnastics. Junior and senior girls had the option of several individual sports such as archery, volleyball, tennis, modern dancing, and rhythmic exercise. Visiting speakers and pertinent films helped the teachers of Health Education to offer their students the opportunity to understand such areas as first aid, hygiene, sex education, disease and drugs. t Field trips for Health classes included visits to the University of Washington Hospital and Birth Defects Clinic. bg fs A45 lx GX rr N s s 1, .. . Librar Introduces New Facilities Change was evident in the library this year with the acquisition of two new librarians. Mr. Ernest Schottg formerly librarian at Cleveland and Lincoln High Schools and Mrs. Priscilla Stixroodg formerly librarian at Asa Mercer junior High School. One of the most significant changes this year was the microfilm reader-printer. This machine condensed magazines onto microfilm which, when magnified on the reader-printer, enabled students to obtain information from certain articles. A copy of a page from a microfilmed magazine could be duplicated on this machine. The library acquired, on microfilm, some of the most widely read national magazines. The Xerox machine, another new addition to the library, enabled students to obtain copies of pages of regular magazines and books for their individual use. .J , Q f' we-axe Regina Cusworth Ernest Schott Priscilla Stixrood Library Secretary Head Librarian Assistant Librarian MAGAZINES Peter Kudenchuk takes advantage of our periodical library.
