. s wg 'ZS'- Girls from Holy Angels High School participate in a class exchange program. Scienc Links Tod This year a combined course of chemistry and physics was introduced at Ballard. Students that were enrolled in this course specialized in either one of these areas. Mrs. Hendrickson, a new addition to our faculty this year, supervised those students concentrating on chemistry, while Mr. Dahl had charge of those specializing in physics. With instruments used in the physics aspect of this course, students detected vibrations of movements as small as 1f50,000 of an inch, in the building. Traditional science classes also continued to play an important part in our Science Department, this year. Ballard had the largest botany class enrollment in the city. This course, taught by Mr. Blessing, gave a knowledge of plant life and a practical background in landscaping. M? Computer Class Open Future Careers Leading the innovations in Ballard's Mathematics Department this year was a computer math course taught by Mr. Alven Thorson. The course started this year with only one class, but the positive response indicated the possibility of additional classes in the future. The programming section of an actual computer was used in the instruction of basic programming technique. Students enrolled in this course worked problems which became progressively more difficult as they became more proficient in their skill. Therefore, students progressed at their own rate, and continuing for more than one semester was optional. 3 X K1 5' X:-. YQ? Business Ed. - A Key To Success cr? .. 'K c Jerry Andrews Donald Burnett William Calder Yell Leader Head Golf Dept, Head Advisor Coach One of the major changes in Business Education this year occurred in the Typing courses. Classes were conducted under the new method of Team Teaching. According to this system, there were two teachers in a class, along with a professional to give individual aid. This system also enabled a student to advance at his own speed, completing more or less than the standard requirements in a semester. After previously experimenting with a new system of Shorthand, the department returned to the Gregg method. Although harder to learn, the Gregg method was more desirable in surrounding business colleges. Retailing, Shorthand, Accounting and Office Practice, as well as Typing and other courses were offered at Ballard this year. All were designed to help prepare students for the business world. After successfully completing a series of these courses, many students were awarded Statements of Proficiency, to be used as references in obtainingjobs.
