President Vice-President Shirley Blecha Paul Cahill 'f' 1 '70 I T'-s Secretary Advisor Judi Pahlman Mr. Peek The purpose of Honor Society is the encour- agement and award of high attainment by students in scholarships, leadership, and character development. Honor Society is one of the ways schools develop the leaders of our country and our world. Certain requirements have to be met in order to become and remain a member, but the Honor Society strives to reach every indi- vidual and put in him or her the desire to do better work. The first job of the cabinet is to determine who will be included. Some annual activities included the decal drive to raise money for our exchange program, the Scholarship Tea to inform the Seniors about available schol- arships, and the banquet at the end of the year. Honor Society is also active in our foreign student exchange program. This year ,lay Cunningham was Ballards first exch ange stu- dent. He spent six months in Italy and came back in January to he graduated with his class. This year Honor Society has added five new cabinet members and two committees, Snoose Junction Function, and Ways and Means. S. B. Its purpose is to encourage and provide ways and means for greater participation by students in the government of their school. A. S. B. accomplished many things this year. Of these were pep assemblies, litter and traffic safety campaigns, also choosing the roll of the month and semester. This was the first year the A. S. B. handled sale of picture packets for the Shingle. A. S. B. held the annual workshop to help interest students in learning leadership and dis- cussion techniques. The assembly order committee set up a successful plan for assembly seating during fourth period at the request of the principal. Also this year A. S. B. planted ivy at the south end of the football iield to control the dust problem. The A. S. B. constitution was revised by a committee of students representing all the organizations of the school. This year we also enjoyed the West Seattle talent assembly for having triumphed in one of our most important duties, the sale of activity cards. With the cooperation of all the students. we had a very successful year. 2l

Mardi GrasMThis committee is in charge oi the Honor Society booth at the Mardi Gras. Pins and Points-This committee obtains a list of Honor Socety members. It also issues the certificates of membership and is in charge of selling Honor Society pins. Publicity-This committee makes posters to inform students of Honor Society activities. lt is also responsible for publishing Honor Society announcements in the bulletin and the Talisman. Scholarship-This committee posts items concerning scholarships on bulletin boards. in the Talisman and the bulletin. It works with the faculty scholarship committee. Special Events-This committee is in charge of all events and activities in which Honor Society takes part. Uslzvrs-Such things as plays, concerts and meetings are kept in order by the ushers. Vocational-This committee prepares all in- formation concerning vocations that may be of interest to Ballard students.
