IN AN EFFORT to eliminate the traditional drudgery of Comp and Lit, the English department has applied many new teaching techniques this year. Miss Blanchard's students used outside interests as subjects for oral and written themes. For the six teachers who have de- voted their time and effort to the all- important task of advising Ballard students in the matter of vocational choice and subject selection are con- cerned with the greatest single change of our lives-the transition from our sheltered childhood into the competitive life of the adult world. THE SCIENCE DEPARTMENT has stressed the application of technical knowl- edge to an understanding of the whys and wherefores of things about us. Among other things, a Radio Code class was introduced, and biology students turned keepers for a day', at the Woodland Park Zoo. The Mathematics depart- ment continued the Navigation class, and offered Math Analysis, a new course in calculus and analytic geometry. I9
