STewarT SmiTh, The band has played publicly several Times This year. They really sTruTTed Their sTuTT aT The opening game oT The TooTball season, in snappy new uniTorms. This greaTly appreciaTed new garb, consisTing oT red and black caps and capes, was presenTed To The organizaTion by generous members oT The P.-T. A. Their rendiTions oT school songs aT The games and in pep assemblies inTluenced sTudenT enThusiasm immensely. When Those in- sTrumenTs blare ouT, l'm iusT Torced To sing. 'Music is one oT Ballard's big TeaTures. We really leT down The bars and swing inTo Tune when we hear a musical noTel The Choir, under The direcTion oT Miss Har- rieT CharlTon, is a Tull-crediT subiecT. This class meeTs every day TiTTh period, and aTTer a liTTle Training They presenT some raTher excepTional programs. Wilh The Senior OrchesTra, Mr. SmiTh's proTege', The choir comprises The nu- cleus oT our music deparTmenT. The orchesTra Took parT in a school broadcasT, played Tor The widwinTer concerT and various oTher gaTher- ings. OT course, iTs sTellar biT was iTs parT in The opera The CounTess MariTza. Several O 0 BANDC I BACK ROW: Lesfer Thompson, Bill Knowles, Louise Knowles, Rex Rhoades, Bob Agers, Vernice Cassidy, Chuck Harlow, Mr. T. SmiTh. The Junior OrchesTra is a lesser organizaTion, buT iT's coming, and nobody can overlook The TacT ThaT The youTh oT Today is The world oT Tomorrow -or some such misquoTaTion! The Boys' Senior Glee and The Girls' Senior Glee are corresponding groups, doing approx- imaTely The same work. These groups endeavor To promoTe musical inTeresT among The sTu- denTs in general, as well as To aTTord an oppor- TuniTy Tor Those who are raTher advanced and have good singing voices. For This subiecT, also, crediT Toward graduaTion is given. The Boys' QuarTeTTe, Twin To The Triple Trio, is also a bunch ThaT likes Traveling. Seven engagemenTs were included on Their reperToire, The Chamber oT Commerce and The Music and ArT Founda- Tion being among The organizaTions who re- ceived a vocal visiT from These eighT lads.
