BH LL H IGH 1 As the Purple Quill Annual celebrates its tenth year of existence. the Ball High School Reserve Officers' Training Corps marks its twenty-second year of service to the Cadets and to the school. In teaching its Cadets to be better citizens and persons as well as better soldiers, the R.0.T.C. renders an invaluable service to them. The R.0.T.C. instills discipline. respect. and courtesy: it gives a knowledge of and an interest in military affairs: and it prepares the Cadet for his compulsory military service or forlhis college R.O.T.C. training leading to a commission in one of the armed forces. In providing such proud organizations as the crack Pershing Guard Drill Team and the sharpshooting Ball High Rifle Team, the Corps does great service to the school. These organizations. as well as the Corps itself twhich. by winning Army honor ratings for twenty-one years. has brought Ball High to a place of honoril perpetually bring honor, respect, and admiration to the name of Ball High. The R.0.T.C. provides in addition to its curricular studies. which are so valuable to the student, many after-hours activities for the benefit of all. The Officers' Can- didate School teaches leadership methods to Cadets of outstanding leadership ability and commissions many of them Cadet officers. The drill and rifle teams allow Cadets to put into practice what they have learned. And such social activities as the lavish Annual Military Ball and Banquet, the R.O.T.C. Picnic, and the annual Turkey Shoot round out the Cadets' activities. When. at the end of the year, many Cadets receive honors for their achievements throughout the year at the Graduation and Presentation of Awards Ceremony. the R.0.T.C. takes a certain prideg it has turned out another set of leaders and passed another productive and useful year in its long, commendable history.
