'5o RIFLE CLUB The boys of Baldwin were quick to take ad- vantage of the modern rifle range which was re- cently set up in Plaza School. A rifle team was organized by Coach Saul Mines and Captains Tom Robertson and Joel Kaufmann. Team members include Jim Slattery, Peter Brady, Ralph and Don Lindsay, Tony Buehl, Bill Cibney, and Don Prosser. Guns Willlll'4I,, Al Bal with the Little League Wfennis Made Eusyn TENNIS Coach Ray Mihan led his tennis team through another season playing on the new courts at the high school and at nSergiois. Captain Mike Wind playing first singles, was followed by Lance Herold and Eddie Wind. Completing the squad were Robert J. Marlin Ronald Westburg, George Rockliffe, Joel Kovel Roger Cray, and John OiBrien. SOFTBALL Handicapped by the loss of eight members of his 1952 starting team, Coach Frank Uiskin still man- aged to lead his softball men through a relatively successful season. ln Baldwinis softball history, 1953 will be remembered as a year of experimentation and rebuilding. Returning members of the squad were Ray Mon- tano, Elmore Keener, Bill Manck, Richard Waters, Bob Kaplan, Ted Nelson, Gerry Dunn, Bill Pruden, Frank Ruggiere and Bob Phildius. A great many additions were made to the roster as the season progressed, especially from the ranks of underclass- men. Of the ten players mentioned above, the only two with extensive previous experience were Ray Mon- tano and Elmore Keener. Montano had worked as a catcher and third basemen during the previous two seasons and was a solid infield fixture this year. Keener played centerfield for the '52 varsity team and this season provided a steadying influence for an inexperienced outfield.
