wheel, Satsuma Class Poem if 1.1 fxlgjlz Was ever fairer picture given, Than this glad time of four past years, A vessel fair, oft tempest driven, Seniors, '23 to us appears. Trying storms of school oft hover, Sometimes, around each Senior's bark, When the worst exams are over, Tom Steele shows his credit mark. Tho the royal road is rocky, i And the work is hard to do, With Charles Hilcher, strong and stocky, He will put the hardest thru. Just look, here is Gladys Johnsen, The fairest of our charming class, Whose fair tresses with gold are spun, That big, blue-eyed lass. . Here, the smallest of the whole class, Always talking in the hall, She's a studious, clever, bright lass, Our prophet, Loretta Schmall. Oh, how blithely in Life's spring season Our Scotch Bobbie's borne his part, But bad luck brought rheumatism, Yet, he never loses heart. Mae Terrell, in the rosy prime Of Youth, is in our laughing throng, And where's a lass, who's more sublime Than she, who sings Life's cheery song? We give thanks for faithful labor To Ferne Cole, in time of need, Like a soldier draws his saber, As editor, she does the deed.

Etbe :batsuma Senior Class Historq One lonely night as I sat thinking of the past, I soon found myself inter- ested in recalling each step onward of our class. I could see before me, the class as it steadily plodded on the road of the B. C. Aj S. First, I recalled our class as it was falteringly but safely guided by our teachers through that awful first year of High School, and then I realized that soon we would be leaving the wise guidance of these friends and facing the battles of the world as other students had done. The beginning of our career, as a class, brought me back to the first Monday in September, 1919, when we met at the Baldwin County Agricul- tural School full of happiness and ambition as most rats are. In our Freshman year, we organized our class, with Charles Hilcher as President, and Loretta Schmall, Secretary and Treasurer. Although our class had never been large enough to have its own basket ball team, never- theless some of the best athletes have come from it. The victories which these members have helped to win have given us courage and determination to strive, ever for the highest. - When we assembled the following year to begin our Sophomore year's work, we agreed to keep our same officers, but when we met the next year, as Juniors, we elected Kerney Terrell as our leader. After four months of vacation we were glad to return to school and take up our duties as dignified Seniors. All of our former classmates re- turned, and two new members joined our ranks. We kept our same officers this year as we knew they werevthe right kind to fill us with pep and de- termination. As this is the first class to publish a School Annual, we do not feel that we are boastful when we say we are proud of the class of '23, for giving to the world The Satsumaf' H But as we know, even the most pleasant roads must have an endg so our High School career, which has indeed been a pleasant road to travel, will end when we receive our diplomas. It is always hard to break the ties of love and friendship which bind us in our school days, but, feeling that we are now better prepared to take up our work in the world, we' half-sadly, half- gladly bid farewell to our Alma Mater. Even though we are leaving her protecting halls to fill our places in the world we shall ever strive to be worthy of her care by keeping always before us the motto, Knowledge is Power. . GLADYS .IOI-INSEN, Historian.

Mhz Satsuma Kerney Terrell's august power VVorks upon the minds' of all- Bright his face, without a look sour, Pleasant smiles we all recall. With the Seniors now is abiding With friends and foes, both young and old, Fate, be kind, Jack at stake riding Make him more than worthless gold. Miss Dunn, our teacher, we adore, She has given us a plenty g Of Shakespearerand of English lore, That our heads might not be empty. Miss Stewart the girls did enlighten, To boil and stew, to bake and brew, How bread to bake and homes to brighten, To make some dainty garments, too. Mr. West the boys did instruct, How trees to prune and land to build, And how the buildings to construct, So their brains with plans are filled. Miss Case, teacher' of history, Many events, she oft does tell, Of Connecticut state story And some other places as well. Mr. Tipton, chemistry does teach, And the experiments we do, Should make us all be careful each, Explosives, handled we a few. You tho't, when I had but begun, That I was a noted poet, But now, that my poem's nearly done, That I'm not, you'll surely know it. , KARL sToCKE MPN' - A .
