J .1. Newteachers were briefed on their responsibilities by Leslie W. Hedge, principal, in nine orientation meetings. with technical subjects. VIRGIL KIRKPATRICK, Chairman The aim ot the SCIENCE DEPARTMENT was to increase students' interest in science. Among courses otiered were biology, chemistry. physics, lite science, and aviation science. For the tirst time. a Science Fair was sponsored by Bl-IS and held at Bakersfield College on April 7-l I. Science students also participated in Science Fairs at Fresno, the chemistry and physics tests in Los Angeles, and the Westinghouse Science Talent Search, activities directly sponsored bythe Science Department.
