Saurkraut et 'vin rouge Sprechen sie deutsch? Ja, naturlichlu say the GERMAN students. Studying, working towards a common goal, learning the Ger- man culture, becoming aware of their own language is hard work, and FRENCH is no exception. How many times did we feel like bagging it? But the thought of all those Words gradually slipping out - of our minds was too much, so We kept at it. Sure we sometimes felt we had dittos coming out of our earsg but what about the other times when we'd acci- dentally greet our friends in the hall with Bonjour! The finished product was never achieved without Work, though. The artist erased many times. The gymnast stumbled at first. The singer went flat while practicing. The work was seldom wasted. Right: Peri Hartman tinkers with his engine. Birth of the Blues A mechanical drawing pencil, impregnated by the skill of a guiding hand, gives birth to a perfect circle or square. Blue prints are the final goal for these students. It is thought of as a boy's class but more and more girls are making their way into a once male domain. History J oins Past and Present Sooner or later Qno matter how lucky you arel Everyone will experience the joy of having a civics class. Civics is a required class that seniors love to complain about. To the underclassmen, it's a goal they never want to achieve. But as Mr. Winsor put it, civics teaches you how to get involved in your government. The past-as much a part of you, or even more, than the present and future. We have sudden flashes of realization that those ancient people who have been gone for years were once alive with feelings of love and anger and depression just like ours. The essentials remain the same, and only the superficials change: Time and place are not as important as people and emotions. No, Vice-President Sarah Wilt, Secretary Lori Powell, and Treasurer Trudy Bostrum helped him make things happen and together they kept each other from going crazy. They relied on this bond between themselves through the good times and again during the bad like the point allocation argument. y With many decisions made, and precedents set, this year s A.S.B. officers will leave with a unique year behind them. Hank Aaron Threatens Babe's Record Years ago, a writer penned a very proverbial statement: Behind every Watergate is a millhousef' lt was a simple, factual, common knowledge statement. This statement became irrelevant to America as the age of technology advanced upon us. But now, in 1974 this statement has taken on a new meaning and the spelling has been changed slightly. Most Americans believe it is common knowledge. Watergate has become a household word. It has caused the resignation of the Vice President of the U.S. and the firing and resignation of many top officials. It is a time of precedent setting, both in politics and sports. Hank Aaron, baseball star of the Atlanta Bears is well on his way of breaking legendary Babe Ruths home run record. Tougher Than Football l ? Some people think volleyball is an easy sport .... soft, compared to football, for example, or basketball. lt's hard to explain the amount of energy it takes for serving, setting, bumping, and spiking. Or racing to keep a ball from hitting out of bounds, even if we know we can't make it. We have to try. And when it's time to play another school, we might win or we might not, but one thing is sure: we've worked hard. We know what we're doing and it's been a good experience. Bonzon's bombers We have tough competition, boys. In a male chauvinistic school, girl's basketball is struggling for survival, and winning. Sure, more people turn out for boy's basketball, and more people support b0y's basketball, but the fact that so many girls are interested in basketball surprised a lot of guys! It often means long hours of practice, fighting with and crying over student apathy, Wearing your uniform three out of every five school days, baring the cold of football and not having much free time. ENTI T X9 Our Tradition is to Break Tradition For most of the class of 1974, it seemed as though our turn to march out ofthe gym, clutching our diplomas in our sweaty little hands, would never come. Not that we didn't enjoy schoolg we put out twelve of the best years of our lite to the school, and together we made the most of it. The class of 1974 is highly individualistic--to typify it would lead to total confusion. But our individuality gave us something in common with each other and when we worked together on a project, we all put something of ourselves in it to express our unity. Not all of the class was involved in everything-but then what class is? ln our years at BHS it has become almost a tradition to break tradition. We didn't have the usual problem of mass skipping on the vocational opportunities day. Although we wanted the achievement day, we were willing to give our points to another class to make sure the freshmen didn't get it. The senior cruise will actually be organized! And we did our very best to put an end to the senior class singing the Alma Mater at graduation. As said before, our class is made up of people who go their own way, even if everyone else is against them. We speak up for what we believe in, and when a situation arises, we ban the traditional solution and take what course we think is the best. Sometimes this method got us into trouble, but usually we reached our goal. The senior class does have spirit even though it was rarely displayed at pep assemblies. We put our spirit and creativity into whatever we happened to be doing at the moment-be it painting the senior lounge, working on decorations and homecoming floats, or canning an underclassman who was trying to take advantage of our hard-earned open campus. Even if we don't express our spirit in the usual way and definitely do not show any reverence for custom, we have proven that we are ready to go out and take on the world. . . well, at least Bainbridge Island.
