FACULTY Gathering place of fa community in 1907 was the Port Madison schoolhouse which stood near the Big Rook, an island landmark. The Wooden build- ing was used not only for classes, but for early church services and Ladies Aid meetings. Captain Wilkes School, located alt Da.y's Corner, another island landmark, is the newest addition to the Bainbridge Island school district. Tfhe eight- room grade school was built in 1955 and named after a famous Northwest explorer, Captain Charles Wilkes.
