Bill Gilrnore was the able Vicefpresident of the A. S. B. Mary- alice Oliver, Lois Lidral, Mary Hayashi, and Barbara Arnold were effective in the Girls' Club Cabinet. The Torch carried six luniors, Billie Welfare, vice president, Barbara Arnold, secretary, Arthur Koura, Lois Lidral, Yaiko Yarnashita, and lacaueline Cain. On the newspaper staff were Maxine Darby, Billie 'Welfare George l-food and Frank Koba. Art Koura was secretary and Dominick Svornich chairrnan of athletics of the Boys' Club. ln athletics a nurnber of luniors participated and inany won letters. The ranks of the glee club, orchestra and school drarnatics were well filled with luniors. The highlight of the season and perhaps the most exciting game was played on a rainy day at Port Orchard when the Spar- tans held the heavier Wolves to a scoreless tie. Port Orchard by virtue of Bainbridges losses to Poulsbo Went on to take the championship. Eleven lettermen Seniors will be greatly missed in the coming season. The Spartans lost a close game to the Bremerton Wildcats in the opener and followed this game with losses to Poulsbo and Silverdale. A close game at Vashon netted the Spartans their first win of the season. ln the second half of the season the Spartans lost its fourth and fifth game to Bremerton and Poulsbo and then closed the season with wins over Vashon and Silverdale. Coach Schneider was greeted with a squad of 25 athletes the first turnout. On April lO, Bainbridge defeated Bremerton B at Bremerton 76 to 43, and on April l8, the Spartans downed Poulsbo on their home field by the same score. Dominick Svornich took first place in the javelin throw at the district meet and Won the opportunity of going to the state meet at Pullman. The first mixer of the year was sponsored by the Girls' Club on November 22. A Christmas party was given for the members. The Social Service Committee under the chairmanship of Bar- bara Arnold held a drive for toys, food, clothing, and other useful articles to be given to the orphanage at Poulsbo, as a Christmas contribution. Katherine Nelson was chairman of the annual Girls' Club Vod- vil. lt proved to be very entertaining and enjoyable. Something new in the way of entertainment was adopted when our Boys' and Girls' Clubs sponsored a Homecoming Day. Thirty graduates attended, several of Whom gave talks. A matinee dance Was held after the meeting. The liflothers' and Daughters' Tea, held May eighth, under the chairmanship of Elna Petersen, had as its theme a gypsy motif. Two beautiful teapots were purchased by the Girls' Club out of money given to it by the P T. A. Curtains for the rest rooms were also purchased this year. A number of interesting meetings were held during the year. Major Hopkins of Bolling Bay was the most enjoyable speaker with his topic of 'Big Game Hunting. Again, as in years past, the Boys' Club sent a representative to the High School Leaders Conference. This year Bob Coleman was selected and on returning gave an interesting account of his adventures upon the campus. Ping-pong season opened early in November under the direc- tion of Dominick Svornich. About fifty students participated in the tournament, the winner being Don lones. This was his second tournament victory. With Mr, Bingstad as advisor and Kermit Ekern as the chief, tho Fire Sauad was reorganized in the fall. New Captains Were elected, under which the squad has performed very efficiently, in providing much needed assistance at fire drills. The Boys' Club mixer was held on October ll. The boys gave four dollars as their contribution to the school Christmas fund, ac- quired through a penny clrive. The money was sent to the Poulsbo Childrens Home. An attractive rest room was furnished under the chairmanship o' Bciloh Peterson. Due to a successful vodvil the Boys' Club Was ablc to construct a handball court and horseshoe pit. March 27, the Boys' Club assisted the Girls' Club in estab- lishing what is hoped to be a new tradition by asking all gradu- ates to share in a Home-coming day. This has been one of the most outstanding years of the Boys' Club, due to the efforts of the President, Allan Cunningham. Efforts are made to promote scholarship and citizenship through- out the school. To do this, pins are awarded to the boy or girl having earned the highest number of scholastic points at the end of the year, The Torch Banquet was held November thirteenth, the pro- gram consisting of addresses by Mr. W. K. Price and Mr. Malcolm Moran, several Scotch songs by Mr. Kenneth Myers, and talks by students. Pins were presented to six sophomores, five juniors, and eight seniors. The Torch Conference, which originated in this school last year, and whose purpose is to promote better feeling among the schools, was held at Port Orchard this year, Billie Sutherland, Don Sweetman, and lohn Ablan represented Bainbridge at this con- ference.
