The Cruise This is the story of the fourth BAINBRIDGE deployment to the Western Pacific -- a deployment marked by 151 out of 185 days at sea. It is basically a story about people sometimes overlooked ' th h ' , in e emp asls on new equip- ment and systems. For what makes BAINBRIDGE a great ship and she is truly great is not her nuclear fuel power plants or her missiles and radar but tlie flesh and blood 'li h , sai ors t at man the crew. Regardless of the technological skill and imagination represented in the atomic reactors which propel this ship, BAINBRIDGE could not get underway and do her 'ob w'th t J 1 ou the dedication, skill and knowledgeable efforts of several hundred young men who work to ' t ' d main ain an operate this ship 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 12 months out of the year. This cruise has been a varied and interesting one, involving independent operations in the Indian Ocean, SAR a d '- ' ' ' ' n anti air warfare deep in the Tonkin Gulf, carrier escort duties at YANKEE STATION, representing the United States at the Captain Cook Bi-Centennial and Coral Sea celebrations in Sydney and Melbourne, and port visits to Singapore and Hong Kong During the entire deployment, you have met every challenge and commitment--all in superb fashion, displaying the highest standards of performance.
