Nl!- . Captain Sheridan's entire career at sea has been in the Cruiser-Destroyer Force. Following his grad- uation from Holy Cross in 1950 and commissioning, he served in the Engineering Department aboard Usis J neer Officer of USS POR TER. Upon the decommissioning of PORTER, he at- tended the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School where he earned the degree of Master of Science in Engineering. Captain Sheridan next served on the staff of Com- mander Destroyer Squadron Four. In 1959, Captain Sheridan was selected for the Surface Nuclear Power Program. He attended the Advanced Nuclear Course at the U. S. Naval Submarine School at New London, Connecticut and received operational training at the Nuclear Power Training Unit, Arco, Idaho. OHN W. THOMASON. His next assignment was Engi- Upon completion of nuclear power training, he was ordered to USS LONG BEACH pre-commis- sioning detail. Captain Sheridan served for three years as the Engineer Officer and participated in Operation Sea Orbit as part of the world's first nuclear powered task force consisting of BAINBRIDGE, LONG BEACH and ENTERPRISE which circumnavj igated the globe in August-September 1964. Upon detachment from LONG BEACH, Captain Sheridan was ordered as Commanding Officer of USS EDWARD MCDONNELL. Prior to assuming command of BAINBRIDGE, Captain Sheridan attended the Naval War College and earned a Master of Science degree in International Affairs from George Washington University. Captain Sheridan was born May Sth, 1928 in South Orange, New Jersey. He is married to the former Elizabeth A. Necman of Boston, Massachusettes. They have five children and reside in San Pedro, California.
