The duties of the Medical Department staff range from conducting routine Sickcall, to performing yqf- ious laboratory and minor X-ray and surgical proce- dures, to maintaining numerous Emergency Medical supplies, to training the crew in basic First Aid and other subjects which include various health precau- tions in the different ports visited during a WESTPAC. ln addition, the Medical Department conducts rou- tine health fsanitation, industrial hygiene, and in- sectfrodent inspections. LT Leonard, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in May 4977. He completed a medical internship at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, be- fore reporting to BAINBRIDGE in August, 1978.
