Able LCDR Able, of West Columbia, South Carolina, graduated from the Naval Academy and re- ceived his commission in June, 4969. His first tour was as Engineering Officer in the USS DETECTOR CMSO-Li29Q, homeported in Charleston, South Carolina. He remained stationed in Charleston until 4975, serving as navigator in USS MACDON- OUOI-i QDLG-85 and USS MOUNT BAKER CAE-345. While stationed in these three east coast ships, LCDR Able made four Mediterranean deploy- ments. Upon completion of his tour with MOUNT BAKER, he served a tour of shore duty at Naval Station, Norfolk, Virginia, and in August, 4978, re- ported aboard BAINBRIDGE for duty.
