The Staff. . This cruisebook owes its existance to the imagination and dedication of a small group. ENS Roger Kappy Kaplan assumed the responsibilities of cruisebook advisor late in the deploymenthdetermined to make the cruisebook as professional as possible. FTM3 Don Albright held the position of Editor-in-Chief, and, despite being inexperienced, did an outstanding job. His actual involvement went much further than his title, as he found himself not only editing copy and layouts but also developing film and photographs. RM2 Randy Ataide. the only staff member from the previous cruisebook, served as layout editor. His knack for filling holes and surmounting production obstacles when work on the book lagged earned him the distinction of 'itroubleshooter for the staff. ETl Gary Nessim had the difficult job of selecting color pictures and arranging them for the color section entirely by himself. Through months of work, scattered photographs and yet-to-be-written copy began to materialize and take shape as actual pages. Long tedious hours were spent proofreading copy, checking layouts, and inspecting the near-final product. With the expert assistance of Mr. Ed Shoen, Josten's American Yearbook represen- tatlve, many ofthe staff's more difficult ideas were made possible and were a significant addition to the qualify of this book. The Photographers. . Photography for this book, a skill beyond just snapping pictures, was done by numerous members of the crew. Almost every division supplied a photog- rapher, leaving the editors with a good choice of photographs for each department. lt would be impossible to mention all the contributing photogra- phers, but special thanks are in order for IC4 Dan Fitzsimmons, who took more than his share of pictures and spent many hours training an elite few in the art of developing and printin . Honorable mention goes to ETl Nessim, ET2 Neal, IC4 Erbe, EW2 Gonzales, TM3 Albright, BMSN Balda, MM2 Tafel, STG3 Bow- man, ETMC Riplinger, and MM2 Wimmer for the vital part they played in recording events of the deployment on film. And Finally. . D Yes, .after a seven-month deployment, nothing is left but memories, memo- ries which have been recorded forever through long hours in the darkroom, at the typewriter, and at the layout table. We, the staff, hope that you will treasure this book as much as we do. Even with knowledge of the hardships which were endured, the deployment was one that will take a long time to forget. With our very small staff and a great deal of last-minute support, we d'd VUGYWOQ? To produce what we consider to be a great cruisebook. In hopes that you will enjoy sharing this with your lo ed ' and prosperous life. v ones, we wish you an eventful l R l v '
