1. Bogert, T. Baker, R. Wigglesworth, Coach, F. Delaoutre. Hopes were high for the first season of the Babson ski team as the roster of skiers was re- viewed in january. The team coached by Bob Vifigglesworth, an enthusiastic racer, who unfor- tunately tore a tendon at Christmas, was com- posed entirely of freshmen and juniors. The team started the season off on the right ski by winning an invitational slalom race at Intervale, N.H., sponsored by Bentley College. Co-captains Jeff Bogert and Ted Baker, both juniors, compiled the fastest times for the Beavers and bought the team to its first victory over the five other colleges present. The season consisted of nine races which were held in Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. The events were slalom, giant slalom, and down hill, and at each race the eight best Babson skiers competed against the eight best skiers from Bentley, Worcester Poly Tech, Lowell Tech. St. Anslem's, Bates, Wind- ham, Merrimack, Harvard I.V.'s, M.I.T. I.Vfs, New Hampshire College of Accounting and Commerce, and Nasson College. The highlight of the season was when Skip Keenan, a freshman, came in second out of eighty racers, in a giant slalom at Suicide Six, a mountain in Vermont. Besides the skiers al- ready mentioned, freshmen Francois Delaoutre and Bruce Hutchinson were members of the team. Probation hit the team hard since some of the best skiers at Babson were not able to partici- pate in the races. Plus the fact that crash', Baker went into the woods practicing for a down hill and Ieff Bogert had trouble with his bindings at the beginning of the year. All in all, it was a Hbuildingi' season for the Beavers. In the words of Coach Wigglesworth, I am looking forward to an excellent season next year since we will have all of our lettermen re- turning plus many new skiers who could not come out for the team this yearf' 1 SKIING

First Row: E. Meshberg, A. Whipple, Captain, T. Clark, Captaing B. Catinella, Coach, S. Smith, I. Maak, I. Golka. Second Row: I. Landry, R. Watkins, M. Potter, G. Cisneros, J. Webb, R. Cranston. Under the fine coaching of Mrs. Betty Catinella, the Babson swim team posted a 2-7 record. The season started off well with Babson defeating Nichols College by a wide margin. Babson took all but one first place in addition to sett- ing seven school records. The team was enhanced by the depth and experience of this year's mem- bers. The whole team was up for this season. Coverage of the Hrst meet by a national Wire service and several Boston papers added to the team's spirit. Inter- views with Mrs. Catinella on TV boosted the teamls pride and drive. With the start of the winter term, however, came the loss of eight key men, including last year's Ewart Memorial Trophy winner. A excellent group of freshmen partially reduced the effects of our loss. Freshmen Bill Landry, Dick Crans- ton, Lee Watkins, Iohn Colka, Ioe Maak, and Emil Meshberg added considerably to the team. Meshberg, the team,s second highest scorer, gave the team additional strength in the diving event which pre- viously had been a weak spot in the Babson team. Terry Clark, Tom Pease, Mike Potter, and Al Whipple represent- ed the upperclassmen. Al Whipple and Terry Clark were elected co-captains as the winter term started. Whipple Hnished the season as the team's high scorer. He was selected winner of the Ewart Memorial Trophy and will co-captain. the 1966-'67 season along with Steve Smith. -as fr W' 323 Watts' ,iff 3543? 'wi 1 sl ' 41 SWIMMING .
