Webster defines igadflyi as a person who annoys or irritates others. Socrates said that every com- munity needs one of these pests to keep it alive and in a forward direction. The Babson community had one in the person of the EXECUTIVE, the campus newspaper. Editorially the EXECUTIVE expounded on sub- jects ranging from God Is Dead to Why I Will Never Give A Single Penny To Babsonn. To those who read the paper only superficially the EXECU- TIVE was touching on Sacred Cows' that might be better left untouched. To those who read the paper with a concern tantamount to that of the authors, the paper was the voice of the students that has been mute through too many years and too many inequities. Intelligent letters did come, though few. We grew by them and tried to inject our new awareness into the students. If we did this our job was complete. In an eight page tabloid newspaper there are under normal circumstances, eighty double-spaced, typewritten pages of copy. If twenty people partici- pate in making up these eighty pages then it is fun. If five participate then it is work. The EXECUTIVE staff of last year vacillated between five and twenty persons. The inverse correlation between the num- ber of people on the staff and the numbers of spelling errors, proof errors and misinformed com- mentaries was extremely high. If more than One person sought advertising we had more than we could tastefully carry. If one person was doing this job alone we failed to cover the cost of printing. The latter was more often the case. If the paper continues to be the annoying gadfiy then Babson Institute will continue as a community for the young businessmen for whom it was de- signed. Robert W.
