Record Breakers The track program at APC has been building a few years now. The 1981 season was a culmination of many years of effort between the coaches and the athletes. Under the direction of Terry Franson this Cougar team was determined to be the best ever. They realized they had a long road ahead of themselves but they took the challenge and ran with it. The team had two main goals. The first was Galatians 6:4 — But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have reason for boasting in regard to himself alone, and not in regard to another. They wanted to be a real Christian team and glorify Cod through their own event and a team as a whole. The second goal was to be the best track team possible. This included their dream to win districts. This team soon became a team of record breakers for by the end of the 1981 season almost every school record had been broken at least once and sometimes more than that. Some of the school records that were bro- ken: Doug Loisel 400 meters 48.4 John Burch 400 meter relay 43.1 Ted Campbell 400 meter relay 43.1 Doug Loisel 400 meter relay 43.1 Jeff Dorman 400 meter relay 43.1 )ohn Burch 1600 meter relay 3:18.4 Ted Campbell 1600 meter relay 3:18.4 Doug Loisel 1600 meter relay 3:18.4 Jeff Dorman 1600 meter relay 3:18.4 LizCarmand Marathon 3hr. 17min. The women who had their best season ever placed 2nd in District, 1st in CCAC and 11th in NAIA Nationals. For the first time in the history of the school Azusa had three women All Americans, they were Liz Carman, Charmaine Collins and Casey Giaco- mazzi. Five men also received the title All American, they were Mike Barnett, Doug Barnett, Terry Drake, Doug Loisel and Tim Nelson. There was one athlete who received a most distinguished award and that was Doug Barnett. He was named Most Outstanding Athlete at the National NAIA meet. This is the larg- est honor for any college track partic- ipant and no other student at Azusa had ever received this title. Overall this team had grown inter- nally. They had developed their tal- ents and God given ability and had given Him the glory for every one of their victories. They had kept their individuality and yet performed as a team. They were victorious and they were the record breakers. Ted Campbell heads toward the highest obsta- cle In track the pole vault bar. OA Track ■ Contenders Track Team.
