Defense Showed Drive Defense was the big element in the success of the Cougars of 1980. Game after game was dominated by a group of young men who played every down as if it was going to be their last. The statement that defense wins games was indeed a true statement, for the Cougar opponents struggled for a mere 11.1 points a game, statisti- cally the defense was ranked fourth nationally in total defense, NAIA Division three. The defensive line was outstanding at times with Doug Barnett, Dave Meade, Gary Lenhart, Danny Grant, Stan Stupor, and Ron Ponciano were thought of as the best tandem in small college football. The secondary, Ron Cochran, Anthony Hankins, Tim Nelson, and )eff Milhon, were a major factor in the success of the team this year, for they were integral m limiting opponents to score. Making a driving tackle is Drew Howse, as Gary Lenhart, Norm Slosted and Stan Stuport approach. A look at the tough Cougar defensive line who received much praise for their gallant efforts in the 1980 season. In psyching up for the Cal Lu ' game the Defensive squad receives a buzz.
