CONTENDERS CONTENDERS Azusa Pacific College ' s athletic teams set many records. This year could very well be the most successful in APC ' s sports history. However, all of the trophies, records, and champion- ships earned are not the reason for competing. Instead, it is a way for Christian men and women to show the love they have for Jesus through the playing of sports. Athletes at ARC are a special breed. The old saying, It ' s not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game, plays an important role at Azusa Pacific. The athletes know that the real victory will come in heaven and that defeat does not mark the end of the world, because they have something even greater to live for. Divider Page Contenders

Faculty Makes Donkeys of Students Shooting a basket and riding a donkey is no easy matter as junior Eric Peterson soon found out. It seemed that Eric spent more time on the floor than on his donkey during the first annual Donkey Basketball Came. The students took an early lead in the game with Senior Gary Lenhart and Freshman sensation Kurt Leander scoring point after point. However, a turnabout soon appeared when faculty member Bob Walters showed the students just who was Top Donkey while Professor Matt Tuohey showed excellent defense. Combining their efforts they joined to make a 50-40 win over the students. Saddle sore players were evident as they slowly hobbled around school the following day. Trying to get his donkey to hold still so he can mount is Dan Canary. Also seen is Pete Albright hanging onto his bucking bronco. After spending most of the evening on the floor Kurt Leander tries a little sweet talk with his donkev. It was rumored Kurt had quite a bit of difficulty walking the next day.
