CHAPEL REPORT CARD .Charlie Chapelilcjpper Sfudent - IdQOO IZA J, Q €L ' Name ' r USE A NO. ii PENCIL The Chapel Card , Syndrome The requirement of Chapel Attendance was no new thing. While most students agreed that chapel should be mandatory many felt 3x a week was a bit harsh. Each student was allowed 7 absences a semester. For some this was no problem, but for those who received notices of fines the third week of school it proposed the following dilemma. 1. They could go broke paying $2.00 a day in chapel fines. 2. They could have someone turn in their card for them or 3. They could attend chapel. Many chose 2. This in itself proposed a new challenge. The most common method used was to walk into chapel, pick up a card, fill it out, name and social security number, and hand it to a friend while you leave. Your friend then had to carefully align his her card on top of yours and turn it in to the chapel checker at the end. Hopefully your friend had col- lected no more than two otherwise the pile got a bit thick and the chance of getting caught increased. But for most it was a fool-proof plan. Although those little chapel cards brought great anxiety to some it was clear that chapel attendance would not be what it was without them. 18 Chapel Student Life .J
