I ' iy r. r r Universal College l! Z People What Is the Universal College? The Universal College Program is a program of accredited traditional college courses presented in an innovative delivery system. All lessons are pre-recorded on video tape cassettes. By using playback machines at the Video Learning Center students may watch the lessons within their schedule, and repeat or review any portion of the tapes as often as needed. The Universal College Program is ideal for those who cannot attend regularly scheduled classes. Stu- dents may avail themselves of open enrollment and may sched- ule their coursework around their work shifts and family responsibil- ities. On completion of sixty semester units (including transfer credits, if applicable), Azusa Pacific will grant students who complete coursework through the Universal College Program the Associate of Arts Degree. Students utilize video equipment.

High Cost of Living Inflation hit APC just as it did the rest of the nation. As Associate Dean of Students Donna Walton had the her- endous job of student housing. Student signed up with roomnnates and their names were placed in a hat. A lottery system was then used to decide just exactly where each would live. It was rumored that for freshmen a prayer vigil was recommended if you wanted anything other than the dorms. But how much did all this cost? Well, it went as follows: BOWLES — $480 semester + utili- ties SHIRE (cooking) — $460 semester SHIRE (non-cooking) — $395 semester TRINITY — $395 semester Ion Wallace, Associate Dean of Students served as Head of Security. DORMS (ADAMS CLARINDA) — $380 semester VILLAGE — $380 semester Then came the cost of food. While those who had cooking facilities sup- ported Stater Brothers market those who did not supported the cafeteria. A 5-day meal plan ran $495 a semes- ter, while the privilege of spending 7 straight days in the cafeteria totaled $540 a semester. Security was tightened up by jon Wallace. Azusa now offered a 24 hour service. Students felt a little safer knowing security was just a phone call away. However, it was known to all that the only weapon security carried was a flashlight. Well at least they had walkie-talkies. Donna Frye served as secretary to the housing department. Associate Dean of Students, Donna Walton had the difficult task of placing all students in housing.
