Cafeteria Food Wasted Over 500 people pass through the cafeteria lunch line on a typical weekday afternoon — each contributing to a surprisingly large amount of food waste. Cafeteria dinner cook Carl Lathrum reports that approximately 100 pounds of food are prepared each meal, and a good 25 pounds winds up in the trash! Of course, this percentage varies, depending on the yummy entree choices and the energy level of its partakers (RE: APC ' s infamous food fights). Nevertheless, students see the cost of this great waste on their monthly school bills.
